Hey all,

I just retired from the Navy after 26 years. My wife and I grew up in Midland. We just bought a house in Rowlett, and will be moving in about two weeks. We've been wheeling for a long time. Her Dad let me take her to prom in his 82 scrambler, and I've been in love with Jeeps ever since. We have an 05 Unlimited Rubicon. It's set up for rock crawling, which was the best set up for wheeling in California. We don't mind limited amounts of mud, but I'm not a fan of muding. What's available around the Dallas area?

Looking forward to meeting, and wheeling with y'all soon!

Dan

Thanks for your service, there is lots to do here but its not like California. I roll around with dfw-tx4wd, lots of prior military and a good bit of active duty like myself.

Thanks Tweak, and thank you for your service! It's hard to beat the terrain in Colorado, Utah, and California. I would rather trail ride living in Texas than crawl in progressive state!

Do you have a website for the club?

Thanks!!! I will check em out. Enjoy the trip. Two hours? That's not bad. All the good wheeling trips here are two to four hours from San Diego. We have a nice OHV park for day trips, but that's still an hour and a half from the house. We will roll into town on the 10th, and hopefully catch y'all on the next trip.

When I was stationed at north island we would go way out south east near the border, basically GPS your way to south bay rod and gun club and just keep going. Some awesome trails out there. Nobody but jeepers, border patrol, and illegals.

There's some good wheeling out there for sure! There's an OHV park not too far from there, Corral Canyon, and that's where we did our day trips.

I will miss the wheeling in this state, and the weather, but that's about it! LOL!

you had me worried there for a second!

Plan your holiday weekends now! Barnwell Mountain is scheduled to be open Memorial Day (May 27th), Thursday, July 4th, and Labor Day (September 2nd). The park will be open on these weekends for four consecutive days. Make your RV reservations by contacting the office manager during normal office hours (Friday - Sunday). Cabins reservations may be made on-line by clicking "Calendar and Reservations" in the menu above.

I just bought a place in Rowlett. Moving this weekend. I would enjoy exploring the areas around ray Hubbard if you're up for it some time!

Usually we meet at 8am at Albertsons in Weatherford leave by 8:15am Meet a few in Springtown about 8:30. And try to be at the Bridgeport Offroad Park at 9am - 9:15am Usually once 1 person gets there they post where they are located inside the park and we all meet there. Try to be on trails between 10:30am and 11:00am Family radios are used generally on channel 6 817-229-6835. If you have any questions If we get a list of people turned in by Wed. They give us a discount to get in. I want to get as many people there as we possibly can. We will be taking a group photo for the new website. Www.dfwcrawlers.com So we want everyone there. Atleast for the panoramic photo of all the rides. 817-229-6835. For any questions. --JD Please check us on Facebook.

Noob here in Lewisville! Got my first jeep last week, 2013 Wrangler, commando green, and I love it!
I'm originally from Lubbock, was in the Army for 4 years, 01-05, got out and finished up school at Texas Tech. Been in DFW for about Six months now. I used to own a 90 full size bronco that was lifted that I loved to drive, but had to sell because it was too expensive to drive. I've always wanted a jeep. My sister and her husband got a 2012 Unlimited Wrangler last year and after driving it a couple times I was sold. Anyways, I've noticed a rather large amount of jeeps in the Flower Mound/Lewisville area and was wondering where everyone went offroading in the DFW?

Who do you Rowlett folks use for doing install of things like lift and bumpers/winch? I'd love to get out with you guys but mine needs a few things before I'd feel comfortable.

Yup, lots of TJs and JKs in FloMo. More than you can shake a stick at. And even though lots are lifted with expensive bumpers/winches, etc, it appears most have never been driven off pavement.
Anyway, if you're on Facebook, check out dfwcrawlers. They're putting together a wheeling trip to Bridgeport this coming weekend.
As for local places, well, there's nothing super big in the immediate metroplex, what there is is mostly just vacant tracts of undeveloped land...but some of these places are actually pretty cool. Frisco has 2 as a matter of fact, so about a 30 min drive and you can be crossing streams, climbing hills, going through mud, etc. Just don't go alone. Usually someone around here will be wanting to go on the weekends as well. As a matter of fact, 8 days ago a bunch of us did some trail improvement on one of the Frisco trail systems.
See you around.

Here's a crazy question...would any of you guys pay to enter a place to off-road? Always dreamed about buying some land west of the metroplex...Just wonder if anybody would pay for a cool, legal place to drive...

Yeah I've noticed that about Flower Mound. I found DFW Crawlers on FB this morning actually. My fiancé's house sitting for her parents this weekend in Weatherford, so if I can talk her into it, we may meet up with the group there.
Glad to hear Frisco has some trails, that's much closer than Bridgeport, not that I mind really.
