Let's get a good local thread going. Make it easier for M&G's and stuff.:punk::punk::punk::punk:

Drove to work this morning in typical fashon! You should have seen all the cars/trucks slow down to get a look at the "idiot" driving in the rain with no doors and just a bikini top! I waved at them all.

Truth be told, I'm dryer now than when I drive in the 100+ heat going home.

Carrollton,TX here! Picts from the trip were great!!

Talking about heading to Bridgeport Northwest OHV Park with a buddy this fall. Anyone been & do you recommend?
Thanks!
I've never been, but I've heard it's a great place to go; I've been wanting to go too, though I'm a total newb (never been trailing at all). I was thinking about joining up with the LSJC, think they have everything covered from beginners to seasoned vets.

You should look them up. The "New Guys Runs" sound like they would be great for someone starting out. Ill be tagging along on one of these next month.... Just to meet the group, not to run the beginners trails.

I love Bridgeport. There is lots of variety and all trails are fun. The trail map is great and very useful. I will be planning a trip there some time in September. Hopefully when it starts to cool down. Maybe we can meet up.

How far is that from fort worth? I'm taking vacation the last week of September and that sounds cool!

Depending on what part of Ft Worth you're in, it's between 45-60 minutes.
Not that bad a drive at all.

If you're on the west side, or even south, I'd take 820 west around to Saginaw and cut up through there to 287 north. Take the 114 north exit at Rhome and keep on Jeepin!

Appreciate it. It shows about 3 hours so I think I'll go down and camp on vacation on the last week of September. 3 hours isn't bad and from there I may go down to lazy L and camp a couple of days and float the Guadeloupe.

Here is a great website for finding places to wheel. http://www.find-off-road-trails.com/
They have an extensive list of trails all over TX.

For legal places near DFW the closest that I am aware of are Northwest OHV park (Bridgeport), and Rock Trails of Tolar (Tolar). Both are about an hour from Fort Worth.

On my list to try out are but a little farther away are Barnwell Mountain Recreation Area (Gilmer), and Hidden Falls Adventure Park (Marble Falls). The drive from Fort Worth is 3-4 hrs to those but they offer camping.

There may be other places where wheeling is overlooked but not encouraged near DFW but I'm not aware of them.

If your going to New Braunfels you may want to check out Hidden Falls Adventure Park in Marble Falls, TX. It is only 2 hrs from New Braunfels and is not that far out of the way when going from DFW, well if you don't mind making the trip on back roads. They offer camping, both improved and primitive. I have wanted to go there for a while but haven't had the chance yet.

Yep that's the only reason I was going. Heard it was nice.

I was going to go to check Tolar out yesterday but it was raining so hard all day I assumed they would be closed down. Is Tolar any good for a currently unmodified and is it worth the entry fee? I know they just opened up sometime last year but was curious.

Having just gone there last weekend I figured I would chime in.

Tolar has lots of trails and land. It has plenty to explore with trails ranging from flat and smooth to insane.

When we arrived they had no printer and were not able to give us a trail map, which I have heard is lacking anyway. And the trails are not marked very well. So for the first half of the day we had a great time exploring but found nothing that was really challenging on a dry day. An unmodified jeep would have done fine. It was still fun to explore.

After a lunch break we wound up finding some challenges. Even wound up in a rock trench that we would have all opted out of except it was too late for all but one of us when we realized it. However with good spotting and a highlift for one of our guys we all made it through unscathed. And looking back it was the highlight of the trip.

After that we found the pinnacle of what RTT has to offer at the location where the papa bear trail is. It was a blast with several ways to climb. Some could be done by stock rigs and others like papa bear would break buggies.

Over all we had a great time, however by the end of the day the lack of trail map became frustrating. It seemed every time we tried to find a new trail and challenge it would just lead us back to the main road with no challenge.

Over all I would say yes RTT is worth the money and would be good for a stock vehicle especially if you go on a day when there are others there to watch hit the big stuff.

I am planning to return but currently I like Bridgeport better.

It is possible there were sections of RTT and obstacles that we did not find but a trail map might solve all the issues.

Just my opinion.

You can't find a better group to go out with. I'm a newbie to rock crawling and these guys taught me a lot when I went with them to RTT. I was the wimp that didn't go through the trench, but no one pushed me or gave me a hard time. I can't wait until they go out again, I had a blast.

Ok so I'm a newbie to this. Add to that this is my first post on this site. That all said my wife and I are eager to learn. IDK anything about this life choice, lol. I have a bone stock 06 X. We just got it last weekend. I will apologize now if you see an all black stocker and you don't get a wave. We are still learning. Looking at a few add ons as I type, mainly lights, steps (short wife), and obviously tires. Not loving the stock rims either. But that may wait. We are looking for a group that meets regularly and as we are new I'm not trying to get in over my head trail wise. Is there any place like that around DFW? We live on the north side, Saginaw/Blue Mound area. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Welcome to the Jeep lifestyle mgagerjr. Glad to have you. May your obsession grow quick and strong as most of ours have.

I'll let some of the others speak to clubs and meetings in your area, but I wanted to tell you what I did for my short wife.

I built this out of a busted ratchet strap a seat belt keeper (like comes on the underside of infant car seats) and an old stirrup. All of which I scrounged up for free. You can by similar ones at www.allthingsjeep.com. For $50.

Sounds fantastic. Let me know next time if you don't mind. I'm very seriously considering going Saturday.

Rock trails of Tolar. It'll be about an hour drive for you but everyone says its worth it. I am heavily considering going Saturday and if others want to go as a group then I will for sure go. Kinda Leary about going out alone my first time so a group would be awesome!

I would love to go but my problem is I have street tires on it now. And by street tires I mean basically car tires. I think I would actually get stuck in the grass. I am hoping to get AT tires soon but gotta wait for the fundage. I am quickly learning this is gonna be an expensive past time.

My first run with Lone Star JC I was running street tires and I did fine. Try it out, you will have fun and learn something new!
