Do any of yall know about place in the mountains of Oklahoma or Arkansas that has old mining trails or anything like that for excursion type off roading trips (whether it is day trips or camping trips).

I'd really like to find a place with some pretty scenery and mild trails to go drive around - the type of public land that just isnt anywhere in texas.

As for mountain trails with scenery superlift off road park in hot springs AR is supposed to be very cool. Not really excursion style but they have longer trails than you find most places here.

If you want a TX excursion you need to check out big bend state park. The state park has unmaintained trails that a stock jeep can handle but other makes can not. The national park is not the same thing. Their trails are fit for 2 wheel drive. But the state park actually requires four wheel drive.

They have 70 miles of trails with designated camping sites along the way. But do your research it is desert mountains and you are far from civilization.

Check out this PDF for more info. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications/pwdpubs/media/pwd_bk_p4501_0152k.pdf

I plan to make a trip down there within the next year.

I hope this helps.

Hey, I might be going to hidden falls tomorrow. I'm new to Texas (yeehaw). I've never been on any rated trails so I'm not sure what my experience level is on those terms. How's the camping around there?
I have not been to hidden falls but everything I hear about it is great. However if you are near dfw there are several of us heading to Bridgeport tomorrow. If your plans are open come join us. All the information is posted back a few pages on this thread. The short version is we are meeting at Bridgeport between 8-9 and have lunch being cooked on site, chili.

Oh shit son! Who is that and how the hell did y'all do that? Did it happen because someone was listening to David? ;)
Well, you know David, as he asked me to take one group on the "Bunny Trails" and he wanted to take the other group on "Should I Say" more advanced trails... "Nuff Said!"

It's rough out there for a fact! No harm, No Foul! Heck, I just backed out of a trail rating of 1-2 class, because it was too tight for 1 guy in a full sized pickup to follow, so without looking backed up quickly and I got into a roll over situation, because I didn't look behind me.

Just one simple mistake and I had to have JD ride on my front bumper just so I would not flop the dag gum thing. Go Figure?

Later JD stated he was suprised that I had asked him to ride on the front bumper, because he knew I could have pulled out by myself.

My answer is "1 ounce of prevention is worth Ten pounds of cure!" I felt the front end and she was going to roll!

Thank you JD ;)
