front lisence plate required by Texas state law?

Just put on a new bumper w/stinger and there isn't mounting holes for the front lisence plate. Do I have to have one? Been noticing other vehicles the past couple days, and some don't, but not enough to clearly indicate if it's against the law to not have it.

As far as I know, it is required. But really depends on your area as to whether or not they actually enforce it. I heard that Texas may eliminate the need for one in the future. If you have a roller fairlead for your winch you can use some mag light clips to mount your front plate.

If you don't want to give someone an easy way to unclip your plate and take it, there is an alternative. I used a little piece of angle metal from the hardware store, the type with all the holes in it, a few bolts - 2 in the plate and 2 in the holes on the bottom of the fairlead, or on the bottom of the bumper, or anywhere that has a hole to bolt to. My ARB bumper came with a small bracket like this.

It is the law. 200 dollar fine if caught, but like TexasJeeper1971 says it depends on the area and the cop.

Bummer. I'll take the suggested advice and get it mounted. Thanks.
