Went to Mudland (Alvin) last weekend. Had a blast, but it was gumbo and super slick a lot of places. Just about everyone got stuck (or worse). It's sort of a new place, used to be something else then closed, reopened and now they want people to create trails etc. It's @700 acres as well, lots of room, but still really new.

I think that it has potential and being less than an hour from Downtown is pretty nice. They need a washing station or something...all that mud makes an interesting drive home.

Other spots in/around Houston have been mentioned. Sugarhill is good if you want to quickly hit something up and practice. Bissonett and the Beltway....and there is a $.25 car wash around the corner. It's not the most challenging spot. But for newbs...and proximity it's pretty good.

Creekside Edge is fun....lots to do out there. Always people there, so if you get stuck or need a pull, someone will come by.

DSO's Website says it's closed for now. Haven't been there or Gen Sams....heard they're about the same....easy/expensive.

I'm new to HJP...and can say they are a cool bunch of guys/gals who do stuff small and big every month. If you're new or old to Jeeping, they are definitely a good place to start to get to know what to do and where to go for Jeeping around Houston.

See yall on the trails!
(What UP Animal?! No Shilo for me this time,...but Next month is for sure.

So, I went to mudland in Alvin yesterday. Of course it's closed this weekend. You can see across the place from the road. It's flat. Flat as flat can be flat. If you took a cookie sheet and smeared mud on it, you would have a scale model. If riding a muddy turn row is your thing, mudland is your place. Maybe it is different once inside?

During their opening weekend, I spoke with a guy named Chris who is managing the property and he said that they are planning on dedicating about 10-15 acres near the entrance to some obstacles and rock climbing. He's hoping to have at least some of it done by the end of this year. Sure would be nice to have a place so close with more than mud holes (although I must admit, those were a bit of fun also!).

Yeah, it would be nice to have a place to check new wrenching/mod work before a four hour ride to the hills. Double check for binding and rubbing and such. The mud really doesn't do much for me. Did more than my share of that as a kid on Delta turn rows and borrow pits. I'll go check the place out again, maybe drag a couple of y'all with me.

Hey guys and gals, was wondering if anyone knows if a 33/12.5/15 mud tire will fit and stay on the 2006 jeep stock wheels. The guy at discount told me I need to go with a 10 inch wide wheel. Just making sure he's not trying to sell me something I don't need. Also the wheels are only special order so that blows.. anyone help??

They will fit fine on the stock wheel. It is not an ideal setup as a 12.50" wide tire is best on an 8" wide wheel (not 10"), and the stock wheels are 7" wide. However, they fit just fine. You will need to run wheel spacers though to clear the suspension and frame.

On my way to discount to pick up my tires and wheels. Had a few episodes of some serious death wobble. Could see my rims from the driver seat as the wheels shook violently. Lost all control of the rig and went off the road. Any ideas guys I'm actually afraid to drive my own jeep...

If you got it aligned after you installed the lift, I would be very surprised if the new tires don't solve your problem.

Because it is below 70 degrees and nobody wants to go outside and play.

I have my 13 JKR on order & I been trying to pass some time by looking for places to wheel. Looks like we have slim pickings around Houston.

What do you guys think about Down South Offroad? Is this place mostly mud or is it possible to spend the day there without going through a lot of mud?
