Same story here. I have nothing against any members at all. Getting kicked for no good reason left a bad taste for the organization, and I chose not to pursue it.

Anyone doing some wheeling this coming week? The weather is looking perfect for the Houston area Thurs-Sat so I'm thinking about checking out Down South Offroad. 1st time Jeep owner as of 4 days ago & 1st time heading to that place.

Ko, I'm planning on taking Thursday and Friday off, let me know I went yesterday and there seemed to be more stuff for 4wheelers. I was going to check out Mudville (whatever its called in Alvin this weekend).

I was thinking about going Thurs so that maybe it's not too crowded with people being at work. I'm in the Pearland area so Mud Land in Alvin is much closer but I heard is was flat and pretty much just mud. I don't mind some mud but I'm all stock & without a wench so I was hoping to avoid mud pits & too much water fording if possible. Did DSO have a lot different terrains?

I've actually been checking out youtube videos of these offroading parks since I ordered my Jeep about a month ago & here's what the 2 parks are looking like:

Mud Land:

vs.

DSO:

From the look of it it seems like DSO has a lot more variety in terms of terrains.

Mudland is better for ATV riding and drinking beer. If I take the jeep it will be DSO. I usually camp at DSO but mud land is not really the place to camp.

Heading to Down South Offroad tomorrow (Thurs). I should be getting there around 12-12:30. If anyone else is going to be up there look for a stock 2013 Rubicon 2-door in billet with the soft top. 1st time to this park & 1st time offroading a Jeep so I'm excited.

It actually went pretty bad. The park was a lot of fun but I ended up going through some water that looked shallow (I had just passed through a similar puddle just fine). As soon as I went in the front end of the Jeep sank up past the bumper. I was stuck for about 30 min before I got pulled out & they charged $50 to do it. There was a puddle that leaked in through the doors on both the driver & passenger side. On my way home the Jeep started vibrating & acting funny. I have 448 miles on it & fried 1st gear, I need a new transmission. The guys that work there told me that there is actually some kind of pipe in that hole & if you hit it wrong it will pop your tire, it's my fault for going through the water but it would've been nice if they had some kind of sign there, seeing a sign warning about a pipe would've been enough to get me to turn around.

It was kind of expensive, $30 for me and one other person in my Jeep but since there aren't many choices around the Houston area I'll probably go back once I get the Jeep back. Of course I will avoid all water next time.

I'm hoping to have it back in 7-10 business days according to the dealership. It would be great to get something set up with some local Jeep owners to hit some of these trails that aren't too far. Ya I was surprised when he started asking me if I had money, I was planning on giving the guy a tip for helping but it wasn't going to be $50. I was under the impression that the $30 I paid covered getting pulled out but I guess when you go alone with a stock Jeep there aren't any other options. I'll chalk it up to a very expensive lesson learned, but I'd much rather climb things anyways.

Ko I went to TORR in Huntsville and preferred that over DSO there was a group of people from Cypress up there and everyone was willing to help you out. You should call me next time and I will roll with you. General Sams is another one that we can check out, haven't been in years.

ko26, you should check out Creekside Edge in Splendora. It's a fun place for a day of wheeling.
It's too bad those people charged you to pull you out. The offroad community is better than that. We're all about helping each other out...for free

New Houston Jeeper here as well in the Cypress are. Picked up a 10th Anniversary Rubicon a few weekends back and would love to take it out. Have been out to Creekside Edge a few times while working on reviews with press fleet Jeeps and had so much fun I had to buy one for myself. I'm coming from 14 years in a very active Audi community to knowing no one in the Jeep community. Feel a little bit too much like a newbie. Already know the biggest rule, which is never go wheeling alone.

Planning on keeping it stock except for some very minor things, so go easy on me

Try creekside edge. It's ok for a ride around. Mud/water.

What's the difference with the two. What are the pros and cons?
