Last Minute Houston/Galveston and Surrounding Cities

This Saturday 04/23/2011, time: TBD

I know its almost last minute, but I was talking to a fellow Jeeper that's also located in Houston and we were thinking about getting out to Galveston this weekend for some fun on the sand. Some food, drinks (doesn't have to be alcohol), pictures, and bon fire if allowed. Bring the kids if you've have some, dogs if you have them... and I guess the wife/girlfriend. Who would be in?

What about East Beach where we can drive on the beach? Or the longer route (depends on where you are from) on the opposite end past Point West just before the bridge to get to Freeport? Ideas?

I was thinking either east beach or go over to Crystal. I like Crystal just because it's a little more secluded, but bon fires have been fine on either beach from my past experiences. It's almost easier to just take the Ferry over to Crystal than to drive the longer route. I'm available all day, so if anyone's interested, speak up.

They aren't that far apart, only a few miles and a ferry ride.

So I got some messages about changing it to Sunday. Would that still work for some of you? Maybe sometime around 10 or 11 am? Can you drive on the beach at Crystal?

Yes you can drive on the beach at Crystal, and actually, it's more secluded and you are more free to do whatever. And I could go Sunday, but I plan to have a bonfire on Saturday night. SO if anyone's interested in that, let me know.

I doubt I'll stay overnight, Once it's dark, have a bonfire and relax until we're ready to leave, leave and I can always come back on Sunday to enjoy the daylight.

So are you going Sunday only for sure? If that's the case, I may go out for a bonfire on Friday night, that way I'll have saturday to take a break and relax.

I'll probably be going with a few other people... not in a Jeep. I'll try to bring a grill and maybe burger patties and buns and hotdogs. Crystal beach is just a ferry ride North, right?

Yes, it's the ferry ride, and I have a small portable grill I was planning on bringing, but if I don't have to, then I won't. I plan to have the top off of the jeep and the rear seat removed, that way I'll have plenty of room for the cooler and what not.

I may not be able to go, right now my truck is having some issues, head gasket is leaking and I need to get the fixed as it's my only vehicle. I'll see what happens, but right now it's not looking too promising. I'd be interested in a future meet though is I can't attend.
