Moving to East Texas

So I have a job move coming and I will be moving to Lufkin Texas. Does Texas have vehicle inspections and emissions required to get plates? I am going to miss the rocks of Utah. Any info on the area would be great if anyone knows where it is at.

Texas has safety inspections, but Lufkin probably doesn't have emissions checks. I was living in Gun Barrel City, and they didn't have emissions there. Best place to get info about Lufkin would be the city website, and then the state website.

You'll be within a few places for off roading. Shiloh ridge, general Sams, and Barnwell mountain. Barnwell is awesome. General SAMs is a lot of mud and 4 wheelers, still fun. Haven't been to Shiloh.

If you want rocks, you'll have to head to the hill country, hidden falls in marble falls or katemcy rocks.

Lufkin doesn't have emission testing as part of the inspection.

You will enjoy Barnwell. You are moving at the right time as cooler weather is just around the corner. Welcome to Texas.

An early welcome to the area. I spend a lot of my free time in Lufkin. Like was said no emissions. As far as wheeling goes we go up to the SuperLift park in Hot Spring Arkansas since it is the same drive time as Hidden Falls and WAY better wheeling.

If you are into wheeling look me up and we will see what we can make happen.

Where is Super lift Park!? Next year I'll be attending the University of Arkansas and would love to be informed where the best wheeling areas are

My wife and I are looking to relocate to the Paris, TX area from CA this coming summer, and will definitely be missing rock trails in the Sierras. We're currently about 75 miles from the Rubicon and Fordyce trails. That is the ONLY reason I'm sorry to leave this state. The upside is that I've heard about Super Lift park in Hot Springs, but never been there. I have a daughter (and family) who live in Hot Springs and that gives me a great reason to try it out (like I need one..!) It looks like Barnwell will only be about an hour and a half away, so that will be good.

I also understand that there is some trail that starts in OK and goes through the Quachita Mountains all the way to Hot Springs, AR. Anyone know anything about that?

I saw someone in another thread say something about an OHV sticker for their Jeep. Is that some kind of requirement in TX?

I'll be looking for other Jeepers to wheel with so keep me in mind.

^Sweet! You will love the Texas hospitality. Plus I know have better hopes of seeing your TJ in person. Also, being located in Paris will give you access to K-Trail, which is like an actual offroad trail rather than a offroad park. You will be in a pretty centered location for access of all sorts of trails in Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. However, most areas likely will not have the rocks you are used to in California, but that's what Colorado is for

That's exactly what I'm thinking....and Utah. Where is the K-trail, is that the one I'm thinking of in OK?

Yup. Runs through Oklahoma and I think ends somewhere in Arkansas
