The initial buy-in can be a little expensive depending on what you go with, but I think the benefits outweigh that negative. I have a ham radio in my jeep. Also have a CB but I hardly have it on...
Actually, yes. I'm hoping to attend the December local ham license test to get my tech license.. After that I was planning to start off with a Baofeng handheld ham radio - my plans were to put a hood mounted antenna and have that connected to the radio while in the vehicle (quick switch to rubber duck if I need it for hiking/camping). Slow start but ultimately worth it.

Currently running a cb and scanner setup. The scanner almost always on and tuned in to the PD of whatever city I'm in. As for my CB, I don't usually have that on but sometimes enjoy the skips on 28.

Interesting....I might look into a ham radio not too familiar on those though I need to do some research but do you need a license to have one or how does that work

You don't need a license to own a ham radio but you do need a license to use one. A lot of people without a license still have these radios simply to listen to others - but if you want to transmit in these frequencies you need to obtain a license issued by the FCC. These exams can not be taken online, unfortunately. There are several local exams coming up in the next couple of months across the valley if you were interested. The technician (entry level) license exam is pretty easy - many online study guides for them so you shouldn't struggle much with it.

That placed is closed. It's located near the corner of Harrison and FM 509. What are you looking to do? Mud? Trails? All the half decent spots I've found are always near the arroyo river, but little by little these spots are getting closed off.

Ah... You shouldn't have too much trouble finding a decent spot once it rains....

Here's a little schedule of the jeep events. Tomorrow is the 4wheels parts jeep meet&greet. On April 26 will be the jeep beach. I'm not sure if I'll make it to the beach event since I have to attend school from 9am-12pm and can't really miss out on these classes for my bachelors degree LOL!

I might stop by and check out the meet and greet tomorrow after school.

Haha that I honestly don't know but I will post the times as it gets closer. I went to last year's jeep cruise and I think we left the HEB in San Juan (Off the expressway) around 10-10:30. I don't remember off the top of my head.

I have some pictures somewhere from last year. Everyone takes expressway at around 45-50mph so it's not a race to get to the beach like the South Texas F-Bodies camaro beach run. There were 2 stops last year and they were San Juan HEB and the HEB in Port Isabel. They wait around 30 minutes to an hour at the port isabel parking lot for anyone coming from the brownsville/raymondville area so that gives you enough time to gas up, or head into the store to buy quick groceries or things as some jeepers do bbq out there.

All I suggest to come prepared as 4 jeepers got stuck last year due to transfercase issues. Also bring friends with you because some jeepers tend to stick in a little clique. They don't mind you hanging out with them though so that's pretty cool

They actually don't go very far which is kind of weird. They're on Facebook. South texas jeeps. No sign up needed for the beach, you just go.

There's also Republic Texas Off Road, Jeeperos Del Valle, Texas Jeep Crawlers and South Texas Jeeps. I hope to see more jeepers at tomorrow's 4 Wheel Parts tailgate.
