Sargent beach, Texas

Anyone ever go to Sargent beach. I went down last Friday.definitely need 4x4 to drive on most of the beach. Looked it on line and it was talking about a place they call Mitchell's cut said it can be reached by boat or by 4x4 going west on beach. Said supposed to be great fishing. I would love to try the jeep and go there but don't want to go it alone with out another 4x4 in case one should get stuck. I can't air down right now haven't got compressor yet. Anyone ever been to this Mitchell's cut or anyone want to go Saturday. I don't want to fish this time just want to go for the adventure.

I live in Houston, don't know where that beach is at (not from here) but would be interested in a Jeep challenge since I have missed home (Utah). I looked and it doesn't come up on Google maps on my phone.

Been to Sargent Tx if your talking about the place real close to Bay City. Never to the beach there though, I know a retired constable that lives out there. Sounds like an adventure though. Compressor we got and straps. No winch but hi lift jack and chain rig....and shovel.....must talk to better half. Just drug her through Palo Duro last weekend....

my wife won't be going she's not in to the jeep thing. It's a very nice drive with top off going those back county roads. Again just going by sargents web site describing Mitchell's cut sounds like nice beach drive

yeah that's it the road dead end into the beach across a swing bridge the sand was sorta deep. The cars stopped just as they entered or parked on pic mic area. I don't know how crowded it will be this memorial weekend but not many can go where we will go

Y'all let me know if you want to try it. I think I am going but may not try and run to Mitchell's cut unless some other jeeps present

Buddy of mine tried to go down there today but the bridge was out. You may want to check on that before you make the drive.

This is what they are saying. ( MATAGORDA COUNTY, Texas –- Sargent Island was cut off from the mainland overnight after a barge struck and damaged its swing bridge, authorities say.

It happened around 11 p.m. Thursday, just before the start of the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Danny Perez with the Texas Dept. of Transportation says the FM 457 bridge provides access for nearly 50 permanent residents, and another 150 vacation homes also are on the island.

There were no injuries or fatalities, and water traffic has not been affected, Perez says.

TxDOT crews are on the scene to look over the damage and plan for repairs, but in the meantime drivers are being asked to plan accordingly.
Some residents on the island reached out to KHOU 11 News with concerns about food, water, and medications. Some said they believe it'll take a month before the bridge is repaired, but officials have not yet offered a timeline for repairs

Can you imagine being down there enjoying the beach and the swing bridge goes out. You'll be trapped. I don't think I like that place anymore

I'll check again later but if there's a decent beach on the landside then I might still go. I'm pretty sure my kids will be very upset after working so hard to get chores done Friday night so we could go...

Dwoodwoorker and I had a great time! We went to another beach at which we saw several vehicles stuck in the sand, that only made us feel better as we easily passed them up and even went through what made them get stuck. There were trucks driving around offering to pull people out for $10. Both of our Jeeps are pretty much stock/standard JKUs. Those stuck were large often highly upgraded pickup trucks. We owned the beach and had a great time. I'm definitely going again!

Yeah had great time. Got to meet combatdiver and his children had great time wheeling in the sand at San Luis pass. And the kids had good time in the water. When we went through surfside the water looked brown but in San Luis pass it was nice bluish green
