Stuck in midland for a weekend.

Okay folks I got hit with the news that I'll have to spend my week off in Midland at a class I have to take for work and wont be finished till friday so it will be pointless for me to make the drive back home just to turn around a day later to drive back. So what I'm geting at is I'll spend a whole weekend somewere I dont know anything about. Does anyone know of anything within a few hours drive of Midland that a man and his jeep can do?

Big Spring is kinda nice. I'm working about 30 mins out of town. I say "kinda nice" becouse its hard for me to say anything in west texas is nice. Not enough pine trees and river bottems for my taste.

I know what you mean. A giant desert is what it is lol. I kind of like big spring although it just seems like a really slow city. Much of it died off when the airforce base left. I'm in northern Virginia right now and we have more pine trees than you would know what to do with lol.

I was born and raised in Odessa, but left for the big city of Lubbock after high school. Now living in Central Texas and the Hill Country. 30 years ago, there were a number of buffalo wallows that you could bang around in, or a caliche pit or two, but I doubt any of them are still there.

You could head south out of Odessa toward Crane and maybe find some open range ranch roads, but mostly there are oilfield roads and ranch roads - however they are dirt.

There could be some places along the Pecos River which is west about 70 miles. You might check out toward Monahans - there is Monahans Sandhills State Park. It's possible you could "play" in the sand dunes.

Wish I could be more helpful.
