The wrangler is sitting in a lift south of Midland. I just had a can of worms open up. New clutch assy. Ordered. New bell housing ordered. Transmission flushed and serviced. Waiting on everything to get reassembled before tom woods drive shaft can be ordered and installed. After that new control arms from metal cloak will be ordered. Old joints are shot. Currie steering assy. After that. Still need to put an ARB LOCKER in the 8.8 (if I don't upgrade to 9" or Dana 60) front needs a Dana 44 or 60..... Fuck me!

Hey toolman...I appreciate the offer. I have done plenty of work on my cars...but it's always been VW's to this point. (vintage and modern) Looks like the Jeep will be a little different animal...and I could always use some pointers and help. Not gonna go super crazy on mods but do plan some bumpers, winch, side rails, etc...It already has some sort of lift on it...not sure what it is....and some decent wheels with 285/75/16's. Just gonna lurk around the forum for awhile and read up on what the good stuff is and go from there. Thanks!

Labor Day trip to Guadalupe Ranger District of Lincoln NF was alot of fun. Had two TJ wranglers, an XJ, a ZJ an 84 Toyota 4Runner and a big chevy truck with a solid front axle dana 60 conversion. Weather was great, camping was great, wheeling was great. Drove over 100 miles while we were there and stayed on dirt trails the whole time. First trip to test my Currie Anti-Roc and new Metalcloak front tube fender assemblies.

I really like the way the Metalcloak front tube fender assemblies open up the front wheel wells. The assemblies come with a complete inner fender and outer tube and flare. There were a few things that had to be moved slightly under the hood during installation like the battery, power control box and windshield washer bottle, but the Metalcloak design is completely bolt on and the new locations were already punched into the replacement inner fenders. I installed the flat fender not the arched and put the 6" flare on the outside. I didn't hit it on anything more than a tree limb, but don't think they could be damaged easily. I was amazed at how lightweight and flimsy the stock fenders were when I removed them.

I never liked the instability on off camber situations with the front sway bar disconnected, so the Currie Anti-Roc helped out alot in this area. It does get progressively more firm as the articulation of the axle increases, but this is not necessarily a bad thing when off camber and there is still alot of axle articulation that is available. I do notice it is not quite as solid on the highway at high speeds as a connected stock sway bar, but it is not too bad. I do enjoy not having to disconnect and reconnect before and after trail runs.

Nice, I have flat tube fenders also but homemade ones and I don't run a front sway bar. I don't drive on the hwy much so I don't worry to much about the sway bar.

Hello, new jeep owner in Midland TX. Bought a '10 jk unlimited. Looking for some good people to wheel with, I know we're pretty limited here. I do plan to install a 4" lift, lockers, a regear, and finish with 35's. There are others, but these are first on the agenda.

As for me, I am a licensed falconer, so I love the jeep for getting to some of the spots I need to to fly my birds and kill some rabbits! Looking forward to hearing from you guys.

If it is legal to wheel at this place, I am interested in knowing more about it. Sometimes I just get the urge to drive on dirt so bad I can hardly stand it and something close enough to not spend much time or money is something I would like to be able to do. Where is it?

Welcome to the group, there is one decent place that I go close to Odessa to get a little wheeling "fix" when I don't have the time to travel. Will send a PM

Any time! Definitely was fun, hopefully we will have more time next time. Make it an all day event. Unfortunately, I don't get a chance to travel much due to my line of work, so it's nice to have that little spot fairly close. Since everyone does not have a CB radio, I have some high quality two way radios I can bring next time so we don't have to stop every time we want to discuss the next obstacle, etc. so we can do more driving.

You are very welcome, it was great having you along. Ask all the questions you like, I enjoy helping in any way I can. I was very impressed in that stock JK you have. You welcome to go out there with us any time.

Awesome, you are more than welcome if you can get loose at any given weekend. I usually go out there about once a month.

Going with wife and dog to meet a friend and his wife for three days of Jeepin' in the Guadalupe Ranger District of the Lincoln National Forest west of Carlsbad, New Mexico. Been there many times, but everytime I look forward to going. Going to enjoy the solitude, the trail riding, the wildlife, the camping, no phone, no computer . . .
