Next Get Together / Outing

Since no one responded, & looks like a lot of folks already had plans on or around spring break, how about moving the next outing/get together to the first or second weekend in May.

Thoughts.............?

I'm up for a gathering whenever possible, I really enjoyed myself out there.

As for my jeep, I basically change my mind about twice a day on what I want. Lift will be here tomorrow, Thurs. I think I'll be ordering sleeves and gussets to strengthen up the D30. That will be followed by gears and rocker guards. Will most likely go ahead and throw in an aussie locker while I'm in there. The rear will get a Detroit at some point, just not sure when yet. And now I'm seriously looking at 37's...we'll see what tomorrow brings.

Awesome! Honestly though, unless you go to 1 ton axles, I'd set my limit at 35's to keep from breaking axles & other components fairly regularily. (LOL, just look what I did running 35's on a D35 ... haha) Question though, being that you have a Rubicon, don't you have D44's front & back? Or is it not a Rubicon?

Nope, not a Rubi, just a plain ole unlimited. I wish I had a D44 up front. I've been doing quite a bit of reading around and asking, there are a lot of people that run 37's on the newer D30's with great success. The weak points are the same as if it were a D44, most likely going to break a U or shaft before anything on the axle itself. We've all seen things break, and I'd say that 9 out of 10 times, it was doing something we knew would push it, or too much skinny pedal. I wheel pretty easy and don't use my jeep as a DD, so I think I can get by with it. Like I said before though, I change my mind constantly, so tomorrow may bring something new. I do know that 35's can get me just about anywhere I will ever want to go, but having that little bit of extra ground clearance from 37's is nice...and 37's on the 4 doors look sick.

It's all still up in the air atm. All I do know is, this is addictive and my wife just rolls her eyes at me everytime I ask her, "what do you think about this?" I know she likes some of the stuff I want to do, but there are a few things where I get that WTF look. 37's is one of those things...

Thanks for posting those up Scott!!!

LOL, I was born & raised in/around Odessa & have heard many nicknames, but never heard that one before.

X2!

No problem at all, I love sharing them. There will be more outings & you are more than welcome to join any time

I'm pretty sure I've seen where you're talking about before, if it's the same place, I have a friend who is a friend of the property owner who is trying to talk him into letting a few Jeeps come out & play every now & then.

Thanks! & You are very welcome
Really would like to find out who to get a hold of to get to go out there and crawl around with some other jeepers and the slodeatha thing is something I've heard all my life out here cause if you live here long enough you'll have a slodeatha lol

Keep jeepn'

If you can get permission from the land owner, I am down to try something new and relatively close. I don't want to get in a situation where a sheriff deputy drives up and threatens to arrest me. Been there . . .

I've got the 8.8 that I'm putting in it cleaned up & ready for gears, bearings, ARB locker, & C-Clip eliminator kit. Just waiting on parts at the moment.

Also ordered new Waggy springs for it as well since I'm going to do the SOA conversion on it while swapping the axles.

I agree, lol. Haven't had time to go see the guy that knows the owners of that property.

Well, the lift is on and I love the ride. I found out once I got my old shocks off, which were aftermarket shcks from the previous owner, all 4 were completely out. Also, removed the pucks from the budget boost lift they had done as well. So, it's almost 2.5in higher than it was and I think closer to 4in higher than stock. I had a sqeaky noise from the right rear before, that is gone as well, thank God. As of now, I couldn't be happier with the series II lift I got. I am still really torn on tires as of now. I am really wanting 37's, but I do know the safer bet is 35's. There are a lot of people running 37's with success and there are several that have broken stuff with them too. On the flip side, there are a lot of folks that have broken things on the D30 with 33's, so I think it all boils down to the driver and abuse we put on our vehicles. I still feel with sleeves and gussets and keeping wheel spin and hop at a minimum, I'll do fine with 37's. But, who knows.....

And here's a couple of me and my brother in a caliche pit....first time I've had to get pulled out without being stuck. Lesson learned, if you're going to go nose down on something, make sure to have more than 1/4 tank of gas.

Next outing!!!

Well, after visiting with a few of the other local Jeepers, looks like we're going to do another outing on Saturday, March 9th.

Same place, same time as before.

We also got together & decided to form an active local 4X4 club based out of Odessa as well.

For more info on the club & on the next outing, check out our site:
