I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this trail would be equal to, easier, or harder than taking the goler gulch trail to the Mendel pass?

Sorry, I'm not familiar with Mendel pass, but Goler Gulch is shorter and easier than Last Chance Canyon.

That is Goler WASH to Mengel Pass.... You went up Manson's Last stand correct?

Having been up that trail myself, Goler wash and Mengel, Last Chance will not be difficult at all. Last chance is basically a fire road with some rocks in it. There are some paths, if you will, where you can take a more "challenging" direction but for the most part, about the same as the beginning of Goler Wash where the big rocks are, right before you go into the canyon itself. There are no big boulders like Mengel to crawl over.

Last chance can be done in a stock sahara, with no lockers. Hope to see ya out there.

I can trail lead, spot (except for the V notch, need to watch and do this one under guidance a few more times) or whatever you need on these trails.

Gas- Call ahead to the Jawbone store for gas prices and availability. This is about 10 miles, one way from camp.

Thanks! If you and enough other people don't want to do the V-Notch and don't care to watch people go through the V-Notch, you can take them in the first group and not have to be slowed down by the V-Notch group(s).

As previously stated I won't likely be doing the V-Notch myself on this run, but I don't mind spotting others through it. I would recommend at least one locker for the V-Notch though. It has been done without lockers, but it could take a while to get through unless you take the perfect line. Disclaimer: There's a small risk of flopping in the V-Notch, in which case body damage will likely occur.

Wow, i messed that all up... Mengel pass and Goler wash... yes, those were the trails. I went out last weekend in hopes of seeing the Manson place but ended up at Carl Mendel's grave. All in all it was a neat trip and since we missed the turn to Manson's place I can justify a return trip to the wife.

That's because u didn't take the right right turn to Barkers ranch....I was up there last week also for PVD's and I couldn't believe they graded the road up the canyon ....all three waterfalls were smoothed over....really sucked compared to a month and a half ago ....!

I'll be skipping the V-Notch too ... might stop and check it out with my own eyes and say "yup, I saw it" ... looks like it works your sidewalls a lot ... my tires are nearing the end of their life and I took some chunks off the sidewalls at Calico ... so the V-Notch is likely going to be a "next time" for me ... so it wouldn't hurt my feelings to be in the v-notch bypass group

Yup you do use your sidewalls quite a bit in the V-Notch, so it's best done with tires that have tread on the sidewalls so you're not just scraping down the flat rubber on the sidewalls, weakening them. It probably also takes a toll on wimpy stock ball joints too. I wonder how much the V-Notch contributed to my stock ball joints going bad last year. My Synergy ball joints seem to be holding up fine though after a few trips through the V-Notch.

I have no problem spotting you through, but do disclaim that anything can happen on the trail and you take full responsibility for any damage or injuries which may occur. No pressure from me, if someone wants to go through, go for it, if not no pressure from me.

No problem as long as you understand and accept the small risk of body damage. Some people have smashed in their side window there and some have flopped onto their side. It's really not that bad though. Just take it slow and listen to your spotter.

So WOKNROX, can I put you down as a helper? Or trail leader? Or both?

But now you have a matching one on the passenger side from the HV Sluice Box a few weekends ago, right?

Did Goler to Manson's then to Mendel then to Furnace Creek last week end. Cool run with Ancientpath.

Goler has been graded and is a cake walk, Mendel pass is a little rocky and rutted but is very short, LCC has it's rocky spots but there are plenty go-a-rounds

Thanks. Do you know your way around the trail well enough to lead one of the smaller groups? We can use more trail leaders.
