Do you have a GPS device? I posted up a GPS track on the first post which contains tracks for pretty much the entire run. You could download it, then load it into your GPS device. Makes for great bread crumbs.

Let me know and I can send ya some gpx tracks, pm email. Let me know what you want:

Black Rock canyon & last chance
nightmare & Last Chance
Goler and Last Chance
Aimless wanderings of DaK and 526 in Red Rock

One has a cool shortcut, unless the rangers shut it down, between Lastchance and the Holly Cleanser mine. Nice tight corners and one steep climb that you don't know you are doing until your bumper hits the hill.

I still use my Garmin eTrex from 10 years ago ... that is about as cheap as it gets ... I think the newer ones are still cheap but can do the gpstracks ... not sure though ... mine literally just tells me where I am and points to where I want to go

Do you have a smart phone? I use Backcountry Navigator on my Android phone. It works great, and a lot cheaper than buying a standalone GPS device.

Download maps ahead of time, then it works just like a standalone GPS device when you don't have cell service. After downloading the maps you need, turn off data on your phone to test it. You don't want to find out in the field that you don't have the maps downloaded. If you get Backcountry Navigator, I can email you trip files, and after copying the trip files to the appropriate directory and downloading your maps you'll be set.

I use Backcountry Navigator Pro. The free maps that come with it are good, I used them for a couple years or so without problem, but I recently paid extra for the AccuTerra add-on maps. They look better than the free ones. I also paid extra for the add-on AccuTerra Points of Interest Overlay and the California BLM Boundary Map Overlay. I normally have these overlays turned off unless I specifically want to see the info they contain.

If your cell relies on service to tell where it is, it will do you no good out there. About the time you get to Jaw bone station, cell service drops. You may get it if you get on top of one of the higher peaks but it is sketchy.

Lot of GPS don't work out there while in the canyons either. The oregon, montana's, terex and the like work fine out there, our 3790 LMT ha... nope. Also a reason I bought and subscribe to SPOT.

I have Back Country Nav Pro on my phone, worked great out there on most recent trip. Also started useing the iPad Topo App for back up and it was spot on for all way points that I entered using G Earth. The phone is great if you want to record a trac and real time GPS(moving). The iPad is optimun to verify location on a map as a back up, don't have to carry all that paper and easy zoom for old eyes. Get my new phone on Wednesday with the 5" screen(DNA) just as good as a cane this old guy..

I have the SPOT GPS Messenger too, just in case, but also because my wife likes getting the OK messages when I'm out on the trails.

I've never had any problem getting satellite reception out there with any of my GPS devices (Garmin GPSMap 60Csx, Backcountry Navigator running on DroidX, Backcountry Navigator running Droid Razr Maxx, OEM Nav system in Jeep).

I believe our lug patterns are different or else I would say "no worries, you could use mine in a pinch." What size tire you running? I may be able to snag one at the shop.

I tell you one thing though ... raised white letters and rocks do not mix ... i look like I'm sporting fat white walls from an old hot rod

When it comes time to buy the new one...take a look at the Red label General Grabber's....I have been running them for over a year now and can't say enough about them...7 layer carcass & were designed by desert racers to be used in the desert...I love the traction they give on the rox and have had zero chunking ...and if ur wondering if I play in the rox...its in the name...WOKNROX! ...it's what I do..just about every weekend..

Yomando...I'm still workin on the GPS so put me down as a tail gunner for now.....and I've go a kick A$$ radio..
