Here's a small group shot taken two years ago at Schmidt Tunnel. From left to right, that's me, BeantownR6, Nthe8s, JRickW and Kauka. The background looks a lot like that in the current site banner, because it's only a few miles away from where we took that site banner photo. I wonder how many Jeeps we can squeeze in here for another group shot.

Sweet! Are you talking about the caravan that's meeting at Jack in the Box at 4pm on Friday? Because there's a possible later Friday night caravan too.

You have a 4.5" lift with 37's? Doubt you will need a tow hook in the back, but if you do I have one from my TJ I will take for you. You can have it if you would like. Just remind me that week so I can throw it in my Jeep.

About what time Friday evening? Just to give others an idea who might be able to caravan with you. BTW, we're not going to the trailhead Friday evening. That's the meeting place for Saturday morning. If you're coming up Friday, you'll want to head to the campsite.

The factory bumper is usually not a good recovery point, as it's not very strong, plus there may not be a good place to attach to.

Do you have a tow receiver? If so, you can buy a receiver shackle to put in there.

Yah, with a 4.5" lift and 37's it's not likely you will get stuck on this trail, so I'll leave it up to you.

I think that may also be the last time I was at Schmidt Tunnel. I wonder how the cabin is looking, if it has gotten any further vandalized, or maybe fixed up/cleaned up.

Rick seems pretty busy these days, but yah it would be a nice little reunion if he came out for this one. The three of us had some fun runs together back then.

Yah, if he flops in the v-notch, that's a possibility. Also with that size lift and tires, one might want to goof off on some pretty tough stuff, and end up getting stuck. Shoot, a couple weeks ago on Miller Jeep Trail, one of the bigger Jeeps in the group had to be strapped off a rock just goofing off where we stopped for lunch.

Everybody's welcome. Shall I put you on the "going" list or the "maybe" list?

What time Friday are you planning on leaving OC? If you're able to get to Canyon Country by 4pm, there's a caravan you can hook up with.

Which coordinates look like they're off? Or is it all of them? I don't know what datum. Whatever is the most common I guess, because they work in Google Maps, Google Earth, and all my GPS devices.

Are you guys going for sure? I have you on the "maybe" list. Also, it sounds like you'll be camping, correct?

Put us down on the maybe list. I always try to get out of work but if not no biggie. I'll just head up there alone doing 30mph up cajon pass.

Make sure you are trying to plot them as decimal degrees ... if you try to plot dms it will plot wrong. Datum should be WGS 84 ... kind of the default.

They are good ... I was printing off maps at lunch and they all plotted fine.

Does this look like the camp site. The only reason I'm being specific is I may be arriving in the dark. If any one ever look for a specific campsite in the desert at night it's a lot of fun and you never know who you may wake up next too.

Alright as I write this move me up to the attending list. Only thing that will preclude me from being there is having to work. I have one of the overlord's pets working on softening him up right now. Yep 30 days in advance, takes a bit to soften the rock. Be being one of the workers from TX.

Dude goes, "I have been to Red Rock Canyon". I go, "Have ya now? In a Jeep?" Oh the look of horror. So enjoy bringing n00bs along that don't understand the sport. Of course he shall be bit by the bug, and returned to TX to play with steers and flat lands. And that will oh so more torturous than it is already.

Yes, that's the campsite.

Here's a GPS track from Garlock Road to Holland Camp, if you want to load it into your GPS device.
Garlock Road to Holland Camp

Hey, all you folks who are driving up Friday night and not caravaning with me.... I expect we should be at camp by around 6:30-7:00pm. I'll leave my CB radio on, tuned to channel 12. If you need help, you can try hollering over the radio in case you're within range, but camp is about 4 miles (as the crow flies) from Garlock Road. I don't remember if there's cell coverage at camp, but PM me if you want to swap mobile numbers. I might be able to drive down the dirt road to Garlock Road to show people the way up, if I'm able to receive a text message or phone call with your ETA.
