How did the Sarge do Cain.
It warmed up nice yesterday. I guess it was in the mid 70's yesterday.

The Sarge did great! All the work I put into the engine and chassis paid off yesterday. Ran great on the road, just a little slow up a few steep hills.

On the trail he's right at home. I got his clutch a little warm yesterday but didn't allow it to get smokin'. We stopped for a bit to take in the view and let it cool down. Then we were off again. All told, down to the desert and back with zero issues.

He's ready!

I am getting excited about the trip. Every time I think about it I seem to smile, hehe. Kinda like a kid looking forward to giftmas. Just bought a hitch mount cargo basket I will build tomorrow.

Hey folks. I'm having my wife follow me out in our truck so we can bring firewood and all the other camping stuff without over stuffing the jeep.

So, if anyone needs anything brought out, let me know. I can bring extra stuff if needed (chairs etc) or pick stuff up from the store to bring out. I won't even bill you for a fuel surcharge or anything.

PM me if you need/want anything.

For everyone Camping: I spoke to the Ranger at Agua Caliente this morning. She is not pleased by the size our group has grown to, but is willing to work with us. She asked me to provide a list of names and vehicle license numbers for all the people who will be staying. Parking will be tight, but they will find a place for us all. We have three camp sites reserved and can have a total of 24 people. There are currently 19 people signed up to camp with 11 Jeeps.

Camping: As I said, we will be sharing 3 good sized camping spaces. Our spots are close to the bathroom and each one has water and a fire ring. We can get on them after 2:00pm on Friday and must vacate before 1:00pm on Sunday. There are hot showers (25c = 2 minutes) as well as three pools available for use. (Please check out County of San Diego: Agua Caliente County Park) Saturday night we will be having a group potluck, otherwise you are on your own for food. I have an outdoor kitchen that Ill be setting up for people to use to cook on if needed. Please bring some firewood to contribute to the campfire if you have room.

Costs: I have fronted $104 for the two other camp sites, Id appreciate it if people would kick in a few $s to help cover that cost. There is a charge of $4 per vehicle, per day and $1 per pet, per day. Also, we have had dash plaques made for the occasion. Cost is $5 for 2.

Runs: We will be leaving camp at about 8:00 pm on Friday for a night run to the Mud Caves. Well explore a few of them, including one that goes back in about 1,500 feet. The Saturday run will be a Poker run and last most of the day. We have collected a few cool prizes to give away to the winners. (If you have anything appropriate that you would like to donate, please bring it along.) If anyone wants to, we can do a Sunday morning run up to Blair valley and check out some pictograms and adobe ruins.

So, heres what I need from everyone:
Name:
Vehicle license number(s):
E-Mail address:
Cell phone #:
How many camping? :
When you plan to arrive:

You can PM or e-mail ( BrianBaber@Hotmail.com) the information to me. I promised the Ranger Id have a list to her by Saturday so please respond ASAP.

For those just comming for Saturday: I'll post trail head directions and GPS info later in the week. Watch this thread for more information!

Thanks, //Brian (Unlimited)

Heh, I just noticed this is coming up NEXT weekend. I was all prepared to roll out there this coming Friday night, I probably would have caught on by Saturday morning or so. I've been so busy with the new job I barely know what day of the week it is.

The Dash plaques showed up today, they came out great! (they look just like the one in my sig.) Only 9 days left till the WF Westside Meet and Greet! We have a great group of people who are coming out for the event and I'm really looking forward to it. It looks like the weather will be on our side. They are predicting clear and sunny skys all weekend with highs in the 80s and lows in the mid-50s.

Several people have mentioned that they are going to come out for the day on Saturday, it would be nice if those people checked in on the roll-call thread so we know how many are going to be there for the main run on Saturday.

This weekend we will finalize the starting point for Saturday's run and I'll post directions, GPS coordinates, and start time next week.

Saturday's run will be a good old fashioned poker run. Drivers will collect cards along the way and then at the end of the run have the opportunity to trade up to three cards for new ones. The highest hand will get first pick from the prize bag. Then the next highest, then the next and so on until we run out of prizes. We've got a bunch of pretty cool prizes we're giving away, including an official WF coffee mug (courtsy of tiny terror).

What is Saturday's run? I know it's a Poker run but what trail will it be?

Also, where we are camping, are there power and water hookups for my tent trailer? I don't need either and don't normally have them but it would be cool not to have to worry about water consumption or draining my tent trailer's lone battery.

Hey Jerry,

We have 74,75,76
The sites have water and electric according to the map:

Although, I thought for some reason the one in the middle didn't have a hook up. But it appears that they all have complete hook-ups. So you should be good to go!

Thanks, that "Non-hookup 35 Campers/tents" is what I was wondering about, if we are at one of those 35 sites. That page is what prompted my question.

I just wanted to take the time to remind everyone that (if I am remembering correctly) Jerry Bransford's tent trailer makes 3 trailers and that is all we have room for. We have plenty of room for tents but our space is becoming limited.

So as it stands right now, we don't have any more room for trailers.

I could be wrong... I will check with Unlimited for sure.

I'm hauling a small ATV trailer 5'x10'. Not a camp trailer. I just need a spot where I can chain and lock it.

We have the three spots that Cain highlighted on his map. Spaces 74 and 76 have full hook-ups (water, electricity, sewer) space 75 is a tent only spot that just has water. My Motorhome will go across the back of space 74 with room for a tent or two. Since 75 is a tent only space, Jerry is on space 76 with his trailer, plus a tent or two. Rob will be the main person in space 75 plus another tent. I've got a list that has everyone and which space they will be in that I will send out to the people that have responded to me early next week.

As to the Run on Saturday: We will either start with Oriflamme Canyon (52) or Pinyon Mountain road (54) If we start with Oriflamme Canyon, we will continue on through Pinyon Mountain road. That is where the "Squeeze" and Heart Attack hill are. Then we'll take a trip up Sandstone Canyon (55). Then we'll head SE in Fish Creek Wash to the base of the Diablo Dropoff (57). From the top of the dropoff we'll head back to camp (off S2) via one of trails. If we have extra time, we'll go by the mud caves, otherwise, we'll take the shortest route. (See map below, camp is located near the upper right corner of the "mini key" box.) I'm currently leaning toward skipping Oriflamme Canyon because we will have about a dozen Jeeps and I'm concerned about how long it will take to get us through the run. Even without it, we will have an awesome day on the trail. Any thoughts Jerry? Anyone?

So you're gonna make me do HAH again eh? Until now, I had struggled to avoid doing HAH a second time for about ten years now.

Bloom had started when were there two weeks ago, should still have a pretty good display next weekend. Hopefully the heat won't accelerate it too much.
