The West Coast WF Meet & Greet is just three days away!

We have great runs planned for Friday and Saturday. The weather for the weekend couldn’t be better and everyone should have a great time. Information is scattered in the main thread and the roll-call but I wanted to go over a few important points.

Camping: As I said before, we will be sharing 3 good sized camping spaces. Our spots are close to a bathroom and each one has water and a fire ring. We can get on them after 2:00pm on Friday and must vacate before 1:00pm on Sunday. I plan on arriving at the camp at 1:00pm on Friday. If you get there before me, you will have to wait to check-in. The Ranger will have a list with names and the site you will be on. (I will e-mail the list to those who are camping.)

Saturday night we will be having a group potluck dinner, otherwise you are on your own for food. I have an outdoor kitchen that I’ll be setting up for people to use to cook on if needed. Please bring some firewood to contribute to the campfire if you have room. (Check out County of San Diego: Agua Caliente County Park for more park info.)

The Campground GPS coordinates are:
32* 57.536N / 116* 18.116W
(or look for: Agua Caliente Springs Rd.)

You should be able to put those into your GPS and get directions.

I will be taking this route: I15 South to Hwy 79 South (Temecula Parkway). East on 79S past the town of Warner Springs (41.2 miles). Turn left on San Felipe road / S2 (16.1 miles). Turn right on Hwy 78 (west) and then a quick left back onto S2 (.2 miles). The campground is 21.6 miles south on the right.

Costs: I have fronted $104 for the two other camp sites, I’d appreciate it if people would kick in a few $’s to help cover that cost. There is a charge of $4 per vehicle, per day and $1 per pet, per day. Also, we have had dash plaques made for the occasion. Cost is $5 for 2.

Runs: We will be leaving camp at about 8:00 pm on Friday for a night run to the Mud Caves. We’ll explore a few of them, including one that goes back in about 1,500 feet. The Saturday run will be a Poker run and last most of the day. We have collected a few cool prizes to give away to the winners. (If you have anything appropriate that you would like to donate, please bring it along.) If anyone wants to, we can do a Sunday morning run up to Blair valley and check out some pictograms and adobe ruins.

For those coming Saturday morning: We plan to be at the trailhead of Pinion Mountain Road at 9:30am.

GPS coordinates for Pinion Mountain trailhead are : 33* 03.404N / 116* 25.280W

There will be a white PVC pole at the trailhead with a WF Westside sign on it (there are trail maps behind the sign). If there is a red stripe on the pole, we have started the run. Follow the trail and catch up with us. We will be on CB channel 03.

If you have any questions, please PM or e-mail me.

See you at camp, //Brian (Unlimited)

There is not a solid plan for a run on Sunday morning, we're just playing it by ear. People have expressed to me that they think Saturday will be a long day and then a long drive home on Sunday, so it will mostly depend on if anyone is up for another run. We have to be out of the campground by 1:00pm on Sunday. I don't mean to be discouraging, but I'd hate to see you drive that far and have everyone be gone.

I know personally I'm out of the camp as early as possible on Sunday, no wheeling for me that day. That's part of my unspoken deal with the wife, be home early as possible Sunday after being gone the previous two nights on trips like these.

You guys are more than welcome to come. The camp sites are booked up as of Unlimited's last call to them. You can call and see if there has been any cancellations and maybe slide in to a site that way. County of San Diego: Agua Caliente County Park

I'll try to get a hold of Unlimited to see if he has any ideas. Dont give up on the idea of coming out.

I sympathize. I'm bringing my wife but I have to listen the "get home early Sunday" part verbally.

I guess, we would be in for a short (2 hour) run on Sunday, but not much more...

Great to have you along! The details for the runs are at the botton of this post: 2009 So Cal WF Meet & Greet Run - March 27-29

If you look further up in this thread you can see what sites we are in at the campground. We'll be pulling out at about 8:00pm on Friday night to head to the caves. We'll be on CB channel 3. Look forward to seeing you there.

Wow, no one is posting up. Everyone must be packing and checking all the important stuff. I think I am about ready, just needed a break to re-check everything with a clear head. I am suprised how much I can actually put into a YJ. Looking forward to meeting everyone tomorrow and Saturday.

I finished packing about an hour ago. All I need to do is throw the cold stuff in the chests and strap it down.

Look as though it may be breezy out there. NWS has wind warnings posted for most of my trip.

I am coming up with a cargo basket (the smittybilt one) that attaches to the trailer hitch. Does anyone see any problems with the basket? I am running a Smittybilt bumper also. Sorry for the last minute questions, I just want to make the trip safely.

Fine, so long as you aren't planning on taking it on the trail with you where it would drag like crazy.

Done packing.

Have enough firewood for 1 fire ring, 2 nights.

Enough cookies and brownies for the entire group to obtain type II diabetes.

Plastic utensils and paper plates for all.

2 loaves of garlic bread.

AND a jeep to run with.

All set, see most of you tomorrow.

I want each of you to have the extra one at the end of the night when you get up and go "damn, I should probably go to bed". That's when you have that extra one for me.
