4x4 Specialist in Vallejo-American Canyon Area

Jeepers,

I am looking at a 2001 Yellow TJ 4.0 next Saturday in American Canyons. The CarFax checks out, the seller is very likable, the Jeep is pretty much stock with the exception of aftermarket bumpers, black body armor, and maybe slightly bigger than stock tires. It only has 71K miles too!

So, I would like to have the transfer case/engine inspected before I purchase. Does anyone have a recommendation for the Vallejo area? I would prefer a 4x4 Specialist, but a very good mechanic with high recommendations would be acceptable too.

Of course, I will do my due diligence and Google search and call around too, but I would be more comfortable with recommended sources. If any of y'all are mechanics in that area, I'd like to support a fellow Wrangler driver

I think I may have found "the one"!

Also check the codes-just in case. The evap system can be a pain...but not a deal breaker. Along with the transfer cae-look at the rear end and tranny fluid..might be a good bargning point if they show some residue in the fluid.
Love my Gray 01 TJ.

just saw this thread. Not sure if you still need advise, but go to Milts. I've never been, but all my buddies swear by the place.

Thanks,
I talked with them and their pricing is good, $108 for a couple hours and a complete look over. They have awesome reviews on Yelp

The seller is bringing it to a Jeep dealer to get the closest mileage tuneup (75k?) because he lost the paperwork for the 60k tuneup. I'm going to talk with the Jeep dealer and then decide if Milt's should inspect it. Seller is super nice and open about everything, but its always best to get an unbiased look.

if you want to test out the 4x4, let me know. There's a big dirt lot by the target in Vallejo that has some decent stuff to test.

Sounds good. I'll pm you my number. Hopefully this storm doesn't hold up traffic in the Sierras. It doesn't sound like it will be too bad, around a foot. We're just driving a Lexus with summer tires and I don't want to buy chains, and it's too early to put on snows...

Just to give you an idea what the spot here in town is like, here's some pics.
I had to go there today to pull a couple friends out of the mud.

Um, that's a bit more intense than I was thinking... It's bone stock with bumpers and 31s.

I'll be down on Sat

that's the extreme part. most of it is just little trails throughout the lot. some bumps, ditches, flexing spots.
Let me know if you end up wanting to check it out. I'll be home doing work on Saturday. I'm about a 5 minute drive to there.

the picture is kind of deceiving, but for your purposes it'll do just fine.
