In the ultimate Jeep trailer? So jealous.....after the gears, and the lockers and the bumper... and I win the lottery. Be happy to store it for you if you need the space.

I'm still up for going somewhere or having the taco guy come.

I'd be fine with some sort of camp pot luck/bbq as long as it doesn't involve me cooking anything (bring an un-cooked side, bread or something, or just chipping in with money). Trust me, we're all better off without me cooking!

For the Gold Mountain run, might want to also consider doing Jacoby. The trail head is right by where Gold Mtn ends. It's super easy, a stock Jeep could handle it.

There are no real obstacles on it, just a nice scenic trail. It would probably take an extra hour.

I would be surprised if the taco guy would want to drive his rig all the way up the mountain road and back to camp for this occasion but I have been wrong before.

Is it safe to assume AT tires won't make it through Gold Mountain? Since we now have the Jeep we figured we'd retire our 4 X 4 Ranger- so we put cheaper ATs on it. (32" BFG ATs). Seemed like a good idea at the time. Except now we thought it'd be fun to run Gold Mountain together.
The Ranger is so easy to off-road- even dogs can drive it. The second photo is just for a good laugh. Guess whose towing whom. (or who?)

There isnt near that amount of mud on Gold Mountain...if any at all. The first time I ran it I was on 32" BFG ATs.

Thanks! Perfect. More worried about rock puncture than mud. Hoping for mud. (Incidentally if anyone wants to buy brand new 32" BFG ATs I know where to find some.)

I just did gold mtn last weekend with 33" BFG AT's. You'll be fine. I've done much harder trails with them, MT is not necessary on most trails.

Thanks all.
You guys like your ATs? Looks like you both hit the trails alot. Curious because we've only had our BFG ATs on pavement- and they feel very soft and squishy. Technical terms. Maybe it just seems exaggerated because we had MTs before?

I have a buddy trying to get his old Jeep up to spec. for the trip. I may take you up on that but I won't know for a week or so. Don't want to cost you any $$$ though if you need to cancel.
It appears that Hanna Flats is now full.

I can hold the reservation upto 48hours prior to arrival date and I will only loose the minimum amount. So I will keep my reservation until 7/25 and then cancel if no one needs it.

Those ATs will be fine up there. That tire's sidewall doesn't hold up to trails full of sharp rocks but that really isn't a problem in the Big Bear area. Sharp rocks are common down below Big Bear in Johnson Valley though.

I haven't had any problems with my AT's, they have been great on and off road.

That said, I do wish I had bought MT's for the thicker side walls. Wheels were my first purchase. Although I did do a lot of research, I didn't realize that you get a stronger side wall with the MT's.

I bought the AT's because it is a daily driver and they last longer. My next tires will be 35" MT's.

My next ones will definitely be MTs also. But the ATs are great especially for starters like myself.

Found out earlier this week I have melanoma. Just had surgery yesterday but wont get the results from whether it has already reached my lymphnodes or not til next Thursday. Depending on the results I may have more surgery in the future and might not make it out there. Wear your sunscreen! I'm only 19 and already have cancer! It can happen to anyone, be cautious friends

My sympathies Brother. But here's something to consider. My son had Leukemia and was given less than two years to live. That was eleven years ago. Today he is in remission, and in the best shape of his life. Anything is possible. If nothing else, I wish you this, Good Health & A Long Life.

Thank you for your compassion and I'm happy for your son. I'm a strong believer in mind over matter. Even if they say I'm dying I would rather die out in the mountains on the trail rather than in a bed with people feeling bad for me! Going to do my best to make it out

The last meet and greet was my first time ever off road. I'm 16 had my license 2 months so I was brand new everyone made me feel at home if I needed anything I just had to ask. Probably one of the best groups to go wheeling with. You will definitely feel at home I sure did.
