Oh Coop... you are soooo right. Well, I learned my damn lesson it seems. Some jackass in a lifted Toyota pickup told me that I could easily make it through a double diamond water hazard... well, you know me, I was just looking for an excuse to do it.

SO... I did it. I drove in, and floated my wheels right off the ground. Started taking in water, and thankfully shut my engine off. The rest is just too painful to relive, although there are oodles of pictures.

Everything came out fine, other than there being water and mud EVERYWHERE... oh my word. I just went and bought a crazy-powerful wet vac and have spent the last two hours vacuuming out mud and water... I am bound and determined to get it all out though, I WILL.

LOL, but all I can keep thinking to myself while I pull back layer after layer of carpet to find MORE water, is how flippin stupid that was. Wow... what a day. It was a fun one though!

you might have to upload them to Flickr, or something like that, and then just give a link.

By the way, there is mud EVERYWHERE... EVERYWHERE.

Ive flooded my old jeep several times but it didnt have carpet so ide just hose everything off and then detail it with some windex and itd be good. But now the prevous owner of the rubi had the carpert spray glued in so its not worth the untold amount of hours it would take to clean. Glad u had fun and got the expencive new toy dirty. Hate it when ppl buy new jeeps and dont wana get it dirty so i like u more (not like like just one like) now Scott! So u goin to join us next weeknd in big bear (i know its easter weekend)(but i dont have anyfam in socal so i get to call my own shots)(and i kinda like that)

Dang, I thought you had white jeep. You guys really hit the water....I can't imagine the mess that must have been. You certainly don't mind getting out in the thick of it, so good for you!!! You better star getting some protection on that jeep, it doesn't sound like you are going hold back!

x2 on this! At least throw some rock rails on there, probably the most essential protection. I used the hell out of mine in Calico yesterday and seems like the area that gets hit the most.

Looks like you guys had a blast except for the Jeep/Submarine part..
Yeah, when I got mine, the salesman told me the doors are supposed to be water proof! Aren't they supposed to be?

So what was your opinion of Hungry Valley compared to Cleghorn? Easier? Harder? Lots of stuff to do?

Yeah, if you have a bunch of pics, you can upload them all to an album and post the link to the album. I keep running out of space for pics on here and have to go back and delete them.

I've also been meaning to pay the $25 or so to be a supporter. That will give you more picture space, PM space, and some other benfits. Like everyone else, I'm too broke right now after spending money on upgrades...

Yeah, it wasn't the doors that caused a problem, water came in through the drain plugs. Now that I've removed all of the carpet and cleaned everything really well, I can look at it all a little more objectively. Lol, it was fun. They aren't kidding about the 30" of water limit though... Only because the jeep starts FLOATING... Lol

It's a totally different experience. The best part is the 4x4 practice area, where there are many different kinds of obstacles and things to climb. It's like a Jeep playground! Then the trails around there are nice, but nothing technical. We ran the hardest trail, a 'double diamond' and it was never really *challenging*. I personally like the style of Cleghorn better, although this place definitely has reasons to go back. We met some great people too, even some in toyotas

Last time there I was there a Hummer was doing the deep pond. Asked me to do it, told him no thanks I need to be here to pull YOU out.

We went in there once, made it through and haven't been back through the deep one.

I spotted a stock JK X (no lockers, no lift, street tires) through the sluice box a couple of years ago. No tug needed. We did bail out before the very end though, where there are those two big boulders close together, where people have smacked their doors. But I haven't been there for maybe half a year. The course could have changed.

Ok, that makes sense.

However, what frickin good is it to have the doors waterproof if the water is going to come up through the drain hole? You can't plug that up?

What Toyotas did you see? The FJ's?

I've seen all kinds of vehicles off road: Toyota's, old Bronco's, Land Rovers and lots of others. Interestingly, I rarely see any Hummers. I guess they stick to the paved roads...

There have been several changes to the course. Concrete sewer pipe type courses have been added, believe there was 3 total. We messed around on the smaller one. Freakin things are slippery so we stayed off the larger ones would rather do the flex course with the real rocks. Better grip.

Thanks for showing up..I hadn't gone to bed until 0400...so I dragged my a$$ out of my tent for you

Hungry Valley is SO tame compared to the trails we did this weekend...it'll be way less stress for you and you'll probably enjoy it a bit more. A couple of us were planning on going either this weekend or next. It depends on the weather. It's a big dust bowl out there..looking forward, it looks a little chilly at night and windy. I may wait until the weekend of the 20th instead of next weekend. I know Skylar's in for sure... either way, I'll post up when I know for sure.

After this weekend, you may be bored with the little trails in HV. It's basically just tooling around dirt roads. It's still fun to hang out and camp

To make a long story short, I was thinking of wussing out... Glad I didn't! That was some crazy S#1T!

There have been a few runs where I drove home disappointed feeling like I didn't get my fill. This time I left feeling satisfied saying to myself that I can't believe I did that.

I do want to checkout both Big Bear and Hungry Valley sometime too. I'm taking it to the dealer for service tomorrow night. Hopefully they will do the alignment and fix my DS without charging me. If not, will just leave the DS as is, but will look for one of those lifetime alignment deals. Looks like I'll be needing it!

Calico never disappoints..either does Big Bear. When you go, you'll leave feeling the same way. I personally hate the cold weather, so I'm waiting on Big Bear. When I go, I'm in my tent, so the 20 and 30 weather at night bites. Not a fan. I can wait.

Glad you had a good time in Calico...I love that place..and own those trails

And you Rocked it

You do own those trails, I like going with people that know what's coming up and can give advice before any of us have even hit the section.

Yeah, usually day trips for me. I'm in a good location for that -- Calico and Big Bear are only around 90 min from me. Cleghorn is only 30 minutes.

I do appreciate people like you camping though. That way I have somewhere to leave my hard top!
