Any good local driveshaft shops??

I guess I was having to much fun in big bear a couple weeks ago for whatever reason I crawled underneath my jeep last night and a lil somethin somethin caught my eye!

Now I'm no super genius but I am pretty damn sure this isn't supposed to be like that!! I think a combo of close tolerances and the weight of the jeep resting on that skid plate managed to do some self clearencing.

Gave Powertrain Industries in Gardena a call and with out seeing it they have a rough estimate of $130 to retube & balance + cost of material.

Just throwing it out here to see if anybody has any good spots they can reccomend for a repair? Not looking for the cheapest just someone that's good!

There is a place called Jeep Solutions that's on Paramount, just south of the 91 freeway. If you look for it in Google Maps, it will come up as Harvey's Complete Jeep. The owner's name is Jim and he is a good guy. I just got my front drive shaft custom built and installed for about $600. That's with a double cardan joint on the shaft and both ends swapped to yokes on both ends.

If your in LB than these may not be close enough for you but its something...
The price you got quoted for straightening is a good one (from my experience)

I have used Inland and they are good guys and offer forum members 10% off

I haven't used JE Reel, but JPI has good things to say about them.

I think my dad took our old drive shafts to OC Driveline. They did a great job in restoring them. We keep them around as spares. They knew a bunch about the different types of U-Joints and other little things.

Thank you all, I'm meeting up with Jim at Jeep Solutions tomorrow after work.

He says he closes at 5 and said Id try to make it before he closes but he said he'd stick around if I was running late so no rush.

Sweeet!

Yeah he has done that for me as well. He is an interesting guy; sometimes quiet, and sometimes won't stop talking haha. But I've never been disappointed in the work that his shop does.

Yeah I dropped it off wed or thurs? I haven't heard from him yet but he said he'd be sending it out for balancing and what not so I figured it'd take a few days.

No big rush anyways, when I go pick it upp I wanna talk to him about setting up the gears in my new ProRock44 I should be getting here in the next couple weeks.

The Heeps going under the knife here next weekend...

Jeep will be in the air and the front end out so I figured what the hell and ordered up some Evo Coilovers too

What's in your front end now, a rubi 44? If so, will you be selling it?

Also, I did a lot of research on bolt-on coilovers. I'm not a huge fan of the EVO crowd as they are kind of elitists (in my opinion), but that's the set up I would go with as well. Seems like you get the most flex out of it, and with less alteration to the Jeep. But for the price, you might be able to get a custom job done with some FOX coilovers instead. Look into Poly Performance's coilover kit for the JK if you have time.

Yeah it's a truss'd rubi 44 but I'm 99% sure it's bent. It's eating up axle seals and I'm tired of doing seals every oil change lol

I'm taking everything out of the housing and sticking it in the pro rock so if your interested in a bare trussed and gussted housing hit me up.

I'm not a huge fan of the EVO crowd as well but I do like the way they've set up there kings. The biggest part is being able to go back to coils if I ever decide to sell it/trade/crash it. Ease of install is a plus as well and price difference isn't much by the time you consider welding it all in and the time that takes.

It's been a tough decision lemme tell ya! Hell I got a buddy at rebel that gave me a great price too... But evo still got my $$$.

Yessir! Speed + 37's = death of factory d44

It's actually a Dynatrac housing not currie.

As long as your not hucking a fully loaded jku with 37's down a wash with basketball size rocks at 40-50mph... You'll probably be good for a LOoong time lol

Faster is smoother they said... It'll be fun they said!

Hmmmmmm. Maybe you should have pushed it to 65+mph or so on that rocky trail. That's probably the magic number to just float over the top of everything.

Hey HDgasser; once you get your Jeep back, I'd like to get a comparison how fast it is vs. my supercharged pentastar. Would you be down for a drag race somewhere? I know that I'll lose the race, but I'm just curious how close mine could keep up.

I'm down but I think you'd prolly win.

Then again I've never raced anybody in the jeep lol

Aren't you a 2dr on 35's?

Automatic 4door on tall 35s. But I do have a relatively light weight set up. Light bumpers and no rear seat. I imagine that you will win because of the torque to pull you through the gears better. The RIPP has a nice smooth powerband, but no real snap off the line. I'm not looking to try to win bragging rights, just more curious than anything. haha
