Rowher Flats is very close to you, and pretty tame with some optional stuff for those who want a little more "fun". If there are a few people who want to go, maybe we can plan a run up there.

I live in Santa Paula, not too far from Santa Clarita. I'm new to the 4x4 world but definitely up for going.

Here are my Mojave Road GPS tracks that I mentioned to you last weekend.

This was our planned route, a track which I put together prior to our trip, and which I used during our trip to help keep us on the main trail, which is easy to stray from. This track contains all the waypoints from the 2010 edition of the Mojave Road Guide, which I tediously entered in by hand. See the track story for instructions on how to decipher the waypoint names. Keep your Mojave Road Guide book handy as well while on the trail.

And this was our actual route.

I did the same thing you did and entered each of the waypoints from the book into my GPS, and your right about it being tedious. Did you use established campgrounds or just find your own.

We used a couple of pretty nice but primitive campgrounds, which are marked on my "planned route" track. They were suggested by the ranger to avoid crowds at the more established campgrounds on the holiday weekend that we went on.

Thanks for the info. I think were gonna try the more primitive camping also. I dont have a plan as to the number of miles each day. I thing we will just play it by ear. Is there any terrain out there where a stock LJ might have problems.

Everything on the Mojave Road trail is easy, 2WD the vast majority of the time. Soda Lake can get quite muddy if there's recent rainfall, and Willow Wash can be rather sandy, but still all pretty easy.

Have fun! Bring some geocache-type trinket to drop off at the Mojave Mail Box, and sign the guest book. See if you can find my guest book entry from 11/27/10, if it still goes back that far.

Walk behind the the Mojave Mail Box a bit to find the frog pond, gnomes and Christmas tree. Something the book doesn't mention.

And pick up a rock near the beginning of the trail to drop off at the rock pile at Soda Lake near the end of the trail. Take a look at the sign in the middle of the rock pile. The wording on the sign is kept secret among only those who go there.

I'm here in the area to. Lots to do near by. Everthing from fire roads galore to Miller Jeep Trail. There is a trip on the 1st of Dec going up to Last Chance Canyon. I've never been but it is supposed to be great for beginners. I available everyother weekend end too.

And there's no break in period for the powertrain either. You just don't want to panic brake too hard until the pads seat evenly to the rotors.

I guess you could tool them around on 111, 112, & 113 to ease them in. Then a quick run through the burn area on Lockwood, and up Miller.

I'll be working every weekend for the next 5-6 weeks. Arrrrrrgh....

It will probably be after the holidays for me too. I plan on doing the Calico run on Jan 12th that Yomondo is getting together. If you havnt been on any of the Wrangler Forum runs yet they are always alot of fun and a great group to wheel with.

Sounds good. We actually just picked up our JKU a few weeks ago. Been out of wheeling for awhile. I used to have a 75 Bronco (early body style) which was all set up. Used to go with a group out of the Valley, the "Aftershocks". Aftershocks was a very family oriented group. Been reading a lot of the wrangler forum group trips. They seem pretty family friendly..

I have older kids but my 19 year old daughter is usually the one who goes on the wheelin trips with me. All of the WF events I have been on have been very family frieldly. I havnt had a chance to do alot of the trails in our local area. I have played around the Drinkwater flats area testing new mods but thats about it so I wanna go out and explore more of the trails. Just need to find the time and someone to go with.
