As of right now, I plan on camping. Need to verify with the employer to see if I can get that Sunday off.

Real Jeeps are only stick shift. I don't really have any issues is the rough stuff with my Jeep and a manual trans.

X2 on that...much more challenging / fun with a stick!!! Put it in 1st and crawl the obstacle...I only stalled twice in 2 days Calico...still ashamed....

Well, I'm trying to not to, but tend to ride the clutch too much. A habit I'm working on. I grew up at 12 running sticks on an old 72' pickup, tractors and whatnot. Been so out of the loop its taking some getting used to. Then also I haven't had besides the 76 gmc we have a vehicle that has 4 lo. I'm running a 12' Rubi, 3.5" rough country lift, 33" MTRs, smitty rockrails/steps (They seriously need to learn to build some accurate jigs for injection jet cutting and get their measurements right), RR front skid and an ARB rear U-joint/diff skid. Everything else I have is pretty much eye candy, lights, or front bumper + rear tire/jerry can carrier. Have all the recovery gear I need, tire repair, first aid, fire extinguisher (I used on the jeep 2 weeks ago... could have been real sad), and cooler for first aid beer.

I'm confused. Are ya'll searching for a weekend? Have one picked? etc? Next weekend I'm camping at the South Rim. At some point making a run for Texas to see the folks and/or go on a. Long road trip, b. other destination, c. another destination but I have to get my passport for that and it may be a while.

You have a Jeep.. then it's capable

As long as you are not scared of scratches or too proud to get pulled out, then you are capable.
In my personal opinion if you wheel a built up Jeep your driving skill will never be as good as the Jeep is capable. You should learn to drive stock"ish" where you will learn to pick the better lines, read the terrain, and see the real capabilities of the vehicle. Then when you upgrade you will be able to pick harder lines and tackle bigger obstacles with confidence, you will know what you can and can't do. Going on a trip like this or Calico will give you a huge step up into the learning curve.
Plus some of the most fun on the trail is getting the least capable jeep through the harder obstacles, especially if there is a non-Jeep observing

I ran the Calico trail with the meet and greet guys. Had a great time got the scratches to prove it I did the advanced trail twice. Also I recently moved out to fort Irwin so not that long of a drive.
