A couple of us are headed to Big Bear on Aug. 23rd to run Gold Mtn. and Jacoby Canyon. After that want to run Horse thief flats because we have never done this trail.
We'll meet at the Big Bear Discovery Center 40971 N. Shore Dr.
Fawnskin around 9:00-9:15 and head out at 9:30.
This is a good place to meet (and they have clean bathrooms).
All are invited to join us and we always have a great time.
We will be on CB 15 and will have lunch somewhere on the trails.

Any sort of minimum equipment recommendations for those trails? I was told Gold mountain is pretty easy, but know nothing about those other two. Thanx!

Yeah Jacoby is a fun canyon with nice views not difficult. I have not been on Horse thief flats but don't expect more than some off camber spots.
The main reason I want to run Jacoby is to lead into Horse thief flats.
Stock vehicles with a little lift and maybe some spotting over a couple obstacles on Gold mountain but other than that just a nice day in Big Bear
Put me down as coming. Missed your last one earlier in July. These three trails run together are a good mix of easy to moderate and make for an enjoyable day on the trail.
Great Rick and welcome to WF. We will see you up there. So Cal is a very active forum. There is always something going on and you will meet a lot of great people.
This goes out to everyone who is responding to this run. We will have a blast! and I'm not smart enough on this forum stuff to combine quotes and all that to cut down on too many of my responses.
But keep all those posts coming. I may not understand much about computers but I do understand a good time in the mountains on the trails.
I am in if I do not head to washington state to fish that weekend it is my B day weekend So I am still up in the air about what I want to do I will have my tires and my lift on also my , rocker gaurds for just in case.
I'm working on convincing the wife to make this run with me. How many ladies are going to be on the run?? That may be the nail that makes it a, 'sure why not' instead of ,'Well...maybe'
Then there's that whole move the evap canister thing:/
My wife (a nurse) usually takes care of a special needs child on Saturdays, but she just may be taking that day off because this is such a good run. I hope you get your bride to take part as well.
I'm taking my CB in to the radio shop next week, so I will be able to join in on the trail chatter next time too. LOL

I did GM yesterday with the meet and greet group who were camping in Hanna Flats. I have a bone stock JKUR and gave my skid plates and rock rails a workout. Since I have no lift I relied heavily on my lockers in a few spots. Those with no lockers but a mild lift made it through without much issue. Granted I am new to this type of off roading and a better driver in my rig probably would have drug the underside far less. I did learn that of the two obstacles on GM, if you are stock height like me, take the line on the far left.
Sorry to post twice but I had to edit my horrible spelling. Harder doing these posts without my laptop.
None of the three trails are too rough, stock Jeeps run them all the time. Only one maybe two spots where you will need to take some care. I am sure there will be plenty of help if you feel it's needed.
