A group of us will be in Big Bear this weekend; arriving Thursday night. Wheeling Dishpan Friday, watching fireworks over the lake Friday night and wheeling Gold Mountain and John Bull Saturday. We're staying in Holcomb Valley campground if anyone was still looking for something to do this weekend
Ya, it's going to be crowded, but Holcomb is FCFS too..no reservations. Some of my friends are getting there early Thursday and I'm dropping a leave chit to be there by 4pm myself. 2 rigs per site ..we should be OK.
For anyone not knowing what the trails are like, you can youtube and here's a pic of what John Bull has to offer. Can't wait!!!

Depending on what the rigs are set up and driver ability be careful with John Bull I would make sure everyone has atleast one locker and 33's and sliders If it's a jku in ur group at least 35s for them. I personally have never had a issue running John Bull but I'm am also a 2 dr jk on 37s but there are some tough spots . And the trails will pry be packed so be prepared to maybe be helping others .. Also that section u posted I would stay to the right if not fully locked and don't have atleast 35s that's just my personal view from running it ... Have fun wish I could join y'all but can't ! Next time I'll join
FYI- both trails are rated difficult. GM is the easiest of the two, but you should have sliders at the bare minimum. Bare min for JB are 33's, some armor/sliders and lift. All runs risk body damage regardless. I've run rigs though with open diffs, lift, sliders and 33's with zero damage..but it can happen. Your rig, your skills, your choice. If you're still unsure; Youtube.
Yep I have a lift/lockers/sliders/33s and a winch if needed haha. I don't want to slow the group down or anything though so we'll see how it goes
Nah dude, you're good. I wheeled all these BB trails 33's, lift, sliders, and open diffs for years. Not saying that you won't get damage b/c anything is possible, but you're good to go. It will be good to see you again! Bit of a drive for you, but worth it!
I'll be up in arrowhead starting tomorrow, might meet up with y'all to make a run...
Roger dodger! Please make sure you're aware of what your rig should have to run the trails from posts above. Depending on how many show from this site, we'll have around 9-10 rigs total for Saturday's runs.
Don't know if you're checking this thread or not, but since you yelled at me as we passed each other on 3N16 earlier today i feel obligated to to wheel GM and JB tomorrow. Hopefully it's still a go at 0930 at GM trail head.
Good times had! Hope to get out with everyone again.
Was up at Big Bear on Saturday and met some amazing people on the Jacoby Canyon 3N16 Trail... I know I am messing up the name... but it's right off the N. Shore Dr... anyway... it was a blast meeting everyone that I came in contact with. I love having my JEEP... I can't wait to meet more people and get involved.
I do have a question... what is a good side armor to have, I was looking at the smittybilt SRC because it has a step for my kids. I have seen good and bad reviews... any opinions?
