Anyone going up to BB this long Memorial Weekend? "Flat Tire Rob" aka 1Anvil15 and I are going up but don't have any solid trail plans other then Jacoby Trail (his wife wants a moderate trail for her first trip)
I am actually thinking Gold Mountain to Jacoby and out would be a fun day. Kind of a moderate jeep trail day. Stop for lunch after the bolder field in Gold Mountain. That being said I have only done Gold Mountain once so if anyone is going to run that trail sat or sun maybe we can get some people to join in. Or if there are better trail idea's I'm open.
I usually take the beginners that want to have a "little more fun" on those exact trails and they seem to love it and depending on the time I also link onto horse thief canyon which is like 1/4 mile down from where Jacoby cyn. ends. That should make for a nice full day worth of wheeling starting up in the mountain and ending up on the desert like side of Big Bear.
That's exactly what we are looking for. He is shaking his new lift down and this is a first for his wife, so we want to keep it enjoyable so she comes back.
OK the plan will be SUNDAY morning. Gold Mountain to Jacoby. If we can find someone who has done Gold Mountain more then once that would be great....lol...If not I am sure we can find out way with my maps.
OK i seriously need to change my tag from 1Anvil15 to "flat tire rob" or "what about bob". Im game for whatever, would prefer something light due to the fresh suspension and wifes first time out, dont want to freak her out like Socaljk said. You coming up Sean? Im gonna be up Sat-Mon. Think SocalJK is staying till mon too, no?
We've had stock a 2-door JK rubicon and a 4-door rubicon up GM multiple times without any big issue. The stock 4-door will struggle a little on the first ledge, but other than that there's no great challenge as long as you have a good spotter that knows the line or can spot it.
We can all meet @ 0930 at the Gold Mountain trailhead. We can all do Gold Mountain then people who want to do JB can split off and others for Jacoby can go that way. I'll be doing Jacoby with Flat Tire Rob (I'm going to use that name often so it sticks !!) Jacoby an easy trail for a Jeep, in fact I spotted a Forrest Ranger in a Tahoe through the trail without any issue at all.
I have only done Gold Mountain once but there was many stocks jeeps doing it that day. The first ledge requires you to go to the far left but we can get you through it.
Rattlesnake Canyon was also mentioned since Jacoby is a fairly quick trail but I have never done that one.
Bring something for lunch. This will be a slow lazy day, no rush. We will stop for lunch after the boulder field on Gold Mountain.
****Like I said before I have only done Gold Mountain once so don't expect any expert advice from me. The trail is VERY well marked so I'm sure we can find out way through.*******
Its a fun trail, a little challenging if your new, far more then a fire road but way less then JB or Dishpan Springs. In fact some people call this the newby or beginner trails. When I did it bone stock with my new jeep it got my heart pumping, in a good way. Youtube has several video's of the "hard" parts if you want a preview. We are also bringing our wives and kids so expect some "bathroom" breaks...lol
I think he should stick to "Flat Tire Rob" also. There's way worse to be known for IMHO. I did like "Fix-A-Flat" too! Hey Rob, just think of all the experience you gained in a short amount of time. :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:
You guys need to get together with those Big Bear / Calico kids. It sounds to me like these are both small enough groups to join forces to become as one with the trail...........
Doing well, thanks for asking. I think I'm going to grab an oil pan skid and mod the factory fuel tank skid to toughen it up a bit. I think the steps on her already will suffice with a mod or two I'm thinking about. I already set up the disconnects that I found in the 'trunk' when I bought it. So I should be dialed.
At the end of GM, there is a geocache if anyone wants to do some caching
That's not a bad idea. I geocache with my daughter up there and she loves its. I'll also put you down as a going. PS I GREW UP IN "B TOWN!!!" Relatives still live by BHS.
We should rename this run the "Introducing your wife to off roading run" since that seems to be a common theme. Several new wives will be on this run for their first time. Lomita have you run Gold Mountain before?

My wife (Vanessa) and I (Bernie) will be in Big Bear Sunday through Monday and we'd like to join this run. I have done and lead GM trail a few times so I am comfortable with this trail. The Jacoby Trail is one I have not done yet but have wanted to run it.
So, if it's ok with you guys, we'll see you folks Sunday morning at the trailhead to GB at 9:30.
I would like to go with you guys also but won't know until Sunday morning
if I will make it. I have also run GM a few times.
Please put me down as maybe.
Thanks, Craig
Have not been out in the Jeep for some time and never done GM or Jacoby. Basically stock JKU with open diffs. Might join you guys. Where is the trail head at? Is it off HWY 18 by Baldwin Lake?
