We are camping at Serrano this weekend, so just throwing it out there to see if anyone else is thinking about Big Bear this weekend. If nobody else goes, we will probably just do mellow, mostly-fire-road-ish runs (me on bike, Joyce driving Jeep). However, if anyone wants to join us, I'm open for anything: fire roads, Gold Mtn, Dishpan, John Bull, etc. We could run Sat or Sun, or both.
That sounds good. We're in. What path are you planning on taking to the gate keeper? We could either meet you as you leave the pavement, or just meet you at the gate keeper.
I've never gone in from this side so we're kinda making it up as we go..
I THINK we'll be coming up Van Dusen Canyon from North Shore Blvd up to 3N16 then go right to 3N32 and take it up to 3N10 and keep driving until we hit the gatekeeper or end up in Landers..
Hef will be meeting us at the Gatekeeper also - we are planning to be there around 10AM-10:30AM
..Keep your CB on Ch16 and listen for our cries for help.
When you go in from 3N32 you will hit the big clearing area at the end that has the roads going all directions, take the one to the right take goes along the slight hill and you will come to the signs for John Bull. I may join you guys if my schedule permits.
Hi guys, it has being a while since last time I ran JB. I ran Holcomb yesterday, and I had such a blast. I saw this thread and was wondering if it is open to others as well. Is there space for one more rig?
It's still a small group, so we have room for one more.
If you're on the Facebook, details are here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1564210307218485/
..click the "going" button so we can keep a good headcount.

I don't have lockers either dude, and I ran it with a small group as well, Notarubicon, socalcanyoncrwler, etc, about 2 months or so ago, (the group was huge, but by the time we made it to JB, the group became smaller), they're great spotters, the only hard spot is the gatekeeper, and I just struggled in there for couple of min, we had 3 more JKU's without lockers, we didn't hold anybody, the BLD stuff do work, granted I'm adding a rear locker anyways in a couple of months
The requirements posted on Facebook are to dissuade any n00bs from showing up unprepared because a lot of beginners follow that page. As RSM said, you CAN make it through without lockers. It's a small group and I think most of us will need spotting in at least 1 or 2 places, so don't worry about it especially if you've run it before.
See you guys tomorrow at 9:00am at the Valero gas station. I tried to convince the wife to come, but she's not ready for black diamond trails yet as my copilot.
Fun run today. Thanks Randy for letting me join and Loyd for leading us through. The fire we called in got tackled hard. The water helo made at least 10 trips over our heads once we got back to camp. I think they got it completely out. . That loud lightning strike was probably the culprit.
Great run and perfect weather! (Except when we were airing up).. Thanks for leading us Lloyd and thank you to everyone that came out..
We talked to some firefighters at the gas station that had just come from fire. They said it was a def a lightening strike.. Said there was another small one not far down the road also.
Awesome run for sure, great people, great rigs, we all made without any carnage, just the typical skid rock smashing contest hehehe, my passenger front lca skid was pretty mangled up, i tried to make it straight with a big hammer when i got home,, so at least it's back where it should be, it was a great a day, and it was a pleasure as always to wheel you guys, John Bull is definitely a great trail to have fun with.
Great run Randy, nice meeting many of you! It was a peaceful day on JB. I've probably done JB over 10 times and I don't recall being able to complete the trail without bumping into any traffic. Maybe people were scared away by the clouds.
I was hoping it would rain enough to wash the dirt off my Jeep. It didn't rain that much, only made it a bigger mess. I might actually have to wash it now.
Thanks Randy for setting this up and thanks to Lloyd for leading us through. I've been wanting to do this trail for a long time. I had a great time with all of you and am looking forward to doing it again. Mark aka "Hef"
What a day! Thank you all for helping, spotting, leading etch etc etc. I had a blast and I am happy to report that my daughters are ready to go again. I have posted pics on my Facebook page. I'll add a link to the picks in a little bit.
Happy to have met new great people and good to have seen some familiar ones.
What a blast we had yesterday john b, is so much fun thank you Lloyd for leading and Randy for sitting this up, sure is nice to go with good and well set up JEEPs YA
