Big Bear trip June 4 - 8

My buddy and I are going to be in Big Bear June 4 - 8. Does anybody know of some good trails in that area???? We both are on 35's, lockers, and winches.

Where have you been? John Bull, Dishpan, Gold Mountain and Holcomb are just a few that come to mind.

You can find many trails and places to explore up there. Google those names and see what you find.

You can also get a map from the forest service, the are a bit pricy, but they are pretty sturdy maps and have a lot of great info on them. I got one for all of the national forest in So Cal, they are great to keep with you and they show you which trails are okay to wheel on.. Happy trails!

Actually if you go the Big Bear Discovery center (near Fawnskin) they'll give you an OHV map for free. JB and Holcomb are considered the harder trails- but based on your equipment you'd be fine.
I attached a basic map.
This thread covers Holcomb and Dishpan. Use the "search forum" tool for John Bull- you'll find plenty.

There are a number of locations (Boo-Bears diner for one) that have a free magazine/map of the off-road trails. The map has QR codes you can scan and will give you directions to trail heads using your smart phone. I believe the magazine is called Off-road adventures.

I don't have a map but i'd be willing to meet up with you guys to wheel depending on the day. There discovery center has a couple of free maps i believe

with the set ups you guys have you'll be fine on most all of the trails. (assuming you guys have sliders)

This is the best map I've found of the area, I think this is the one that Dave was referring to:

http://backcountry4x4.com/files/SanB...p5_for_web.pdf

I have a bunch of GPS tracks for the area too ... Everytrail is down right now but if you want I can post them up as soon as their site is back up

Hey Sinbob. .I have the 5th off and if your up for it we could hook up and run some trails in BB.?
I'm thinking of starting with Gold Mtn then John Bull and then head over and run Holcomb Creek. After that we'll loop around to Lower Largo and finish up on the second half of Holcomb creek in the opposite direction. This will make for a great day of good wheelin. ..
Let me know if you'd be interested.

We will be leaving sometime around noon. Google says it is about a 5 hours and 300 miles. So I figure it will take me at least 6 hours.
We will be staying at the Worldmark by Wydham resort on Starvation flats road. I have never been to Big Bear so I don't know if cell service works there or not. My cell is 559-903-0009.

No...I'm not sure exactly where you're staying but if you look at the map I posted it shows you that the start of the trail is on the north (the town of Fawnskin) side of the lake and just east of Big Bear off hwy 18.

Sinbob as you are heading from Big Bear east on HWY 18 as you are going around Baldwin Lake ... 3N69 (Gold Mountain) will be on the left side of the road just after mile marker 56.2 ... If you see the sign for the Big Bear Dump you've gone too far

Wish I could go with you guys ... I have the 5th off too ... But I just pulled my driveshaft this morning and even if I got it back in on time I'm spending my trail money on the replacement

HAha. That was me. Wish i could make it, but it's finals week for me this week and I have to work the rest. Steve knows the trails here like the back of his hand so you'll have no problem. Who knows I might head up by Fresno to run red lake to coyote lake this summer. Have fun and wheel your heart out man.
