Thumbs down Borrego Third Water Crossing

We just spent a few days wheeling in Borrego when we found the Third Water Crossing blocked of with large boulders and the water diverted past it. Then they built a new trail around it. What's going on with that?

They've been screwing that trail up (making it easier than it already is) little by over the past couple years. I think to allow the tour vehicles to get through. At least that's what I was told after they jack hammered one of climb (after the water crossing) sections about a year or so ago. A little disappointing.

I think this is the new Government handicap access for national parks -

mountains are to be smoothed out to a 2% grade
water crossing will be less than 3"
handrails next to any dangers
Tax calculated by drive wheel X gear ratio
Taxes are double if you know what low range is

The trail past the third crossing used to be the Granite Staircase, now it is a gravel road.

Fortunately we still have Calico and Big Bear and DV. Trails are more challenging in these areas too.

Don't forget about Superstition. Plenty of fun trails there too.
