Calico Run - Sat 6/4 or Sun 6/5

6/4-6/5 is the last weekend I'm available for offroading until middle of July, so I wanted to do something. I haven't been to Calico (Odessa Canyon/Bismarck Canyon, a.k.a. Doran Loop) for a while, so I was thinking of doing that. This is a really fun run, several fun obstacles and very scenic. Any interest? If so, any preference, Saturday or Sunday?

Is this just a day run or are you planning on spending the weekend up there?

Yah, we definitely have to get a group together to hit this trail. It's pretty fun and scenic.

Doran/Odessa Canyons shouldn't be too hot at all in July. Actually I wouldn't mind doing Doran and coming back via Odessa but wow, it does get very hot there starting pretty soon now. It's been a while since I've had dinner at Peggy Sue's Diner across I-15, let's do it!

Next weekend would not have been too bad, but yah summer out there would be pretty hot. Maybe sometime in the fall we should plan a trip to Calico.

Whoops you did say June, I dunno where July came from. I LOVE Calico, it's probably the prettiest/most scenic desert wheeling I've ever seen over on the Odessa Canyon side. Yeah that's a trip we should do.

I read and see You-Tube videos of Clalico and it looks very interesting... intimadating, yes intimadating is the word I am looking for, haha. My step kids love the ghost town, but not sure my little 31s are up for a challange like that. What is the opinion of smaller tires with a lunchbox locker in the front. A lot of you know me and how I wheel and what I am willing to try. I would like to go, but don't want to be the guy who gets stuck on the Gate Keeper.

There is a bypass for Doran Canyon's Gatekeeper Jeff, your Jeep wouldn't make it through the Gatekeeper itself without the very strong likelihood of damage. I probably took 45 minutes on one of my slowest trips past the Gatekeeper which can definitely be a challenge even with 35" tires and f/r lockers. You'd be fine for everything else further up Doran and through Odessa once past the Gatekeeper though.

Cool deal. I will have to check with the boss and see what she says.

No. I'm thinking sometime in the fall (October? maybe September?) when it cools down again.
