Clear Creek 2/4 anyone?

Anyone interested it a little trip to New Idria via Clear Creek?

Ross Ave to Ross Ave, San Jose, CA - Google Maps

I will have finished swapping out my lift and would like to get some miles on it so I can re-torque everything.

I'll be taking some lunch with me to have either in Clear Creek or New Idria. We can meet either in San Jose or Hollister. I plan on getting Gas at the Safeway in Hollister and maybe a Coffee at the Starbucks close by.

I last went on this route last year on a motorcycle. It's dirt roads with a couple of steep sections and a few ruts. Not quite family car do-able. Casual drive with stops for pictures, lunch and BSing.
New Idria is interesting to see if you've never been.

I'd like to leave San Jose around 7am.

This will be via/on the open county roads in Clear Creek

Stuart.

Wow, haven't been down there since the 70s. I used to take the dirt bikes and ride all over that place. We used to play in the asphestos beds before we knew what it was. I went to Holister hills with my TJ 3 weeks ago and the young lady in the store told me Clear Creek was still closed. I guess they opened it back up, most likeky with restrictions. Anyway, would love to go but I live in Tracy now and already have plans for Saturday. Hope you can get a gang together and have fun. Later

It's still closed but several of the county roads that run thru it are open. Basically the BLM closed it based on a questionable EPA report. Then about a year later the county opened up the county roads that run thru it.

It looks like I'll have to pick another time to go, not much interest and I don't want to get get stranded out there alone. Maybe a little more notice next time.

10/4 on the stranded. Even when I was at Holister hills and the following week I went to Frank Raines I had the parks pretty much to myself and breaking an axle or turning my Jeep over was on my mind, big time. I am retired and like to go out on a week day. I stay with the trails I think I can get out of. I did have a couple of close calls turning her over though. I spend a bunch of time on the forest trails in the Sierras too. Most of those are just rutted. If you plan another outing give me a shout and maybe my wife and I will want to go.

Sucks getting old, being responsible, thinking what might happen!

I'm not retired but getting up there close. I have a 89 YJ that I've been working on the last year, just not confident in it on a long run yet. I say that now but I took it on the Rubicon last August without incident.

I'll give you a shout next time for sure.
