Cougar Buttes- March 8th

I'm still learning my way around CB, but want to get out there again. I start out on Chicken rock and end up on Bullfrog and Cakewalk. (somehow LOL)

You should be lifted, have sliders, at least 33's and depending on the line you take, at least one locker. There's bypasses all over the place..so you can choose your level of difficulty.

Meet: Let's meet at Hwy 247 and Cambria Rd instead of Camp Rock Rd. Cambria is just 5 miles down Camp Rock Rd. It's on the right. The run is Saturday, March 8th. It's a bit of a haul for me at 3 hours to get there. Let's go 2 options:

Option 1) Day run only- meet at 930am at Hwy 247 and Cambria Rd.

OR if anyone wants to camp Saturday night with me

Option 2) Meet at Hwy 247/Camp Rock Road at 745am, go grab a spot to camp, unload and get set up.. Meet everyone else at 930 at Hwy 247/Camp Rock Road

If you want to do this run, just let me know which option you're up for. If I have to drive home after wheeling, I won't die, it's just better for me to camp....Plus, I usually always camp when I wheel. It's the other half of the fun for me! And that's when you have a chance to really talk and get to know people.

For anyone choosing option 2, please make sure you pack wood. It's cold!! And what's camp without a campfire right?!

If you know the area, you're more than welcome to step in and lead. I don't have a problem doing so, just so long as everyone understands, I don't know where I'm going all the time out there LOL ..it's why I need to keep going back!! There's some pics in my Gallery of CB on my website www.IH8RDS.com

Dang Lorie I wish you were going on a different weekend, I'd love to do CB with you since I haven't yet done that part of JV. I have TDS Desert Safari next weekend & Calico WF M&G mid-March... & my wife wouldn't cotton to me being gone 3 weekends in a row.

Bummer Jerry! But, that place is so big and confusing, I'll be doing more runs out there. Let's plan one April for you

That'd be fun, I have several buddies that would love to go out there with me. You're not gonna make it a night run again are you?

I have been out there once, and a few of us are looking for a place to wheel that weekend. I'm always up for camping, as well.

That's awesome! As you know, the camping areas are all over the place there . You good with meeting Saturday morning and then going to set up camp before the run?

Yeah absolutely. I'd rather drop off all the firewood and all that before we wheel anyway. Are you bringing out a tent or trailer?

Perfect! And I never wheel with a full tub..well, I have half a tub due to a sub and speakers, so my junk is stacked high ..no bueno for wheeling!

I'm stoked..I was beginning to wonder if anyone wanted to wheel..there's events going on before and after my weekend, but I figured at least a couple people would want to wheel who weren't going to the others. How many friends you bringin? I have one who's trying to make it as well..need to inform a couple other buddies who won't do forums anymore..

This weekend is Jeep maintenance; as I bent my tie rod last weekend and need to do an oil change...little paint..but I'll be ready to roll by next weekend! Be crawlin' out of my skin by then!

Yeah I can't make TDS, so I am looking forward to getting the Jeep dirty the following weekend. As for the others, I think Sunday is the better day for them. I am cool with doing both trips, so looks like I've got a whole weekend of Jeeping ahead of me

I actually have one of those self deploying tents too! But it's a little to small for me, so I'll probably bring a normal one.

Right on! I think the plan for Sunday is Big Bear, but that's not too far away. Though I know you're going a different direction home, so it's up to you.

They make 3person pop-tents? This warrants research. Who makes yours?

Yea, I'll pass on BB. I live in a tiny place, only have a numbered parking spot out in the open next to other people's business spots. They complain if I come back too dirty/muddy.

On top of that, I have to go feed the car wash machine to get it clean which turns into a pretty penny and it's just not worth it to me. Not to mention, I'm not a fan of snow. So, I'll just head back to Ventura instead Sunday. I'll stick to the rocks.

My don't remember who made my tent but it was $70 in my door and off Amazon. Totally worth the cash for how much I wheel and camp.

One of my friends is going to meet us out there too..but not camp..

Who doesn't like a dirty Jeep in their parking area? Lame indeed.

My pop-up tent is by Pinnacle, but it was much more expensive than that. I may have to browse amazon a bit.

Right on, the more Jeeps the better!

The wife and I are game to go and camp. Lorie, if you're leaving the Ventura area we could probably drive there together.

I'm pretty sure I've only seen you wear pants a couple of times on the trail. Shorts and Tank Tops seem to be the usual dress code. Lol

You'll be driving right past our house (off the 101). We'll touch base closer to that weekend to confirm.

Do we need to pack wood, or can we buy some out that way?

Sounds good :-) and I would pack wood. Every time I've relied on one of those guys with a sign in their yard, they dont answer.

plus most of them store there would outdoors. And they lack teeth. That doesn't affect the quality of wood, but you do get a sense that you're about to be part of scene in Sling Blade.
