County changing lock@ skyline dr

Hey all. FYI the county of riverside is going to change the locks at skyline dr this month. For those who have a key might want to know if you'll get a new key. The article was in today's press enterprise.

Looks like they are closing it to public use for vehicle travel.

Sign reads:

Beginning January 2, 2013 vehicular access to Skyline Dr will be restricted. The lock will be changed and keys will only be issued to persons authorized by the county transportation department Per resolution No. 86-04

I have done some further research. The Cleveland Nation Forest web page shows the road as being closed. Stated to call Riverside county (951-955-1814) for access.

I have also read that a HOA complained about the dust from the OHV users and the county then decided to change the lock on the gate. If that is true, all the OHV users need to band together and go to the county to represent your side of the trail usage.

They don't mention that in the paper. It's mostly kids who gotten In there and just causing problems in the area and to the local homeowners.

I spoke to a Ranger I came across on Skyline about 2 months back. The biggest issue is no one is locking the gate after they go through it so it is basically open at all times. After rains people are not supposed to use these fire access roads due to damage which increases erosion. If the key holders would follow the rules we wouldn't lose access. Most of the damage is caused by non key holders that can get up there due to open gates.

Here is the article:
CORONA: Too many have forest road keys, county says | Corona, Norco, Eastvale News | PE.com - Press-Enterprise
Riverside gave away too many keys, didn't monitor it, and now can't control it. They took video of all "50 cars" parked there. Did anyone think for a moment that this demonstrates that people need a park/hike/trail like this? I don't want to run circles on a half mile trail in a little park surrounded by screaming children. And if they took video- why not punish the idiots rather than everyone else? Skyline Drive is a walk in the park. If you have an accident there you're up for a Darwin award. You can't fix stupid.
