Cow Mountain or Knoxville

Anyone ever go to Cow Mountain (by Ukiah) or Knoxville (by Clear Lake)? I am looking for somewhere new to go and a lot of the Sierras are closed because of snow.

There is a group running Knoxville, March 1st. You're welcome to join us.

I will still be recovering from surgery on March 1st. I am looking for some place to go before I go under the knife the week after next.

Have you been down to hollister? Always a good place to go. I've been wanting to go up to cow mountain myself lately.

Yeah, what he said. Hollister would be a good place and I think there is a group from this forum going there on the 8th. Cow Mt. has a lot of similarities to Hollister except the trail system is badly neglected by BLM. A lot of the good trails are overgrown with brush, so pinstriping is inevitable there. Hollister has a nicer obstacle course too. Anytime you want to try out Cow Mt. hit me up. I live like 20min from Cow.

I live in the east bay and head up to Cow and Knoxville with bobthetj03 and a few other guys... it is about 2hr 30mins or so from EastBay. If you do not want to pinstripe your jeep, hollister is the place to go.

Sounds like Hollister would make more sense. It is an hour closer and it sounds like some better wheeling. I have been to Hollister a few times. Thought of trying something new. I have been trying to get in as much fun as posible. Last weekend was backpacking in Pt Reyes. The weekend before that was kayaking up in Mendocino. One last off road adventure then I can live off memories for a month or two. I just got a big box of guide books for Utah and Colorado. The wife and I hope to make a two week trip out that way in the fall. Thanks for the info on Cow Mountain.

I personally think Cow Mt has better wheeling... but probably because I go to Hollister so much I am burnt out on Hollister.

Have fun and post pictures if you can!

Cow Mt is fun, but if you really want to explore, Mendocino National Forest offers some great exploration opportunities! Then, there is the "Lost Coast"! Stay tuned in September for a Lost Coast run!
