I like the idea of having a dash cam so I catch potential insurance fraud, record police encounters, etc. However, like with many things in this state, the law is a bit ridiculous. If you want to check it out for yourself you can find it here. Basically, whether it is on the windshield or dash mounted, it obstructs the view out the windshield and must meet certain requirements to be an allowed exception. If, however it were mounted in a way that did not obstruct the view out the windshield, it would not have to meet those requirements (based on my interpretation of the law). What if you mounted the dash cam to the sport bar? There is no way that could possibly obstruct the view out the windshield or side window. Has anyone tried anything like this? Where would be a good place to confirm my interpretation of the law?
