When I was a kid wheelin' with my dad ... we used to always hit up Deep Creek in the SBNF ... haven't been there in like 20 years ... anybody know the trails back in there?

The trails in the area are really scenic leading up to deep creek and very mild. If you start at the pinnacles in Arrowhead or even as far down as Silverwood, you can have a nice mellow trail ride all the way up to the bridge at deep creek. After that, the trail changes changes quite a bit....If it werent for the difficult section just past Deep Creek, you could go from Silverwood all the way through Big Bear.

Just an FYI...ya'll know the old "parking area" is off limits now right? Old indian burial ground or something like that. People have been crawling over the rocks put in place to keep people out. Just a heads up.

IMO...you're better off going to devil's hole for swimmin.

As I started to type out this whole big explanation, I realized I was re-inventing the wheel.

Try this: Devil's Hole - Dirtopia, the Off-Road Encyclopedia

Let me know if you need more. This isn't as easy as getting to the Deep Creek bridge area, but it's also (IMO) not difficult at all. There's a nice sandy beach on one side and some rocks the lunatics can jump off on the other. Not a great deal of parking or turn around space, but adequate if ya park organized.

Now you're making me want to head out there...

Right on ... This is pretty close to the area I was talking about ... Just up the creek a bit actually ... Although I remember coming in from the 3N59 side ... Thanks this one jogged the old memory!

How did you get there? I've been all over that creek and haven't seen somewhere like that where you can drive down right next to it. I want to go next weekend.

You appear to be much further downstream than Devil's Hole, or the bridge "recreational area".

Deep creek road, east side of the river, turns into dirt and almost runs all the way back to the spillway, although the spillway is blocked off. Go on a fri and sat night you will see like 10 bon fires and all kinds of action.

Please define: "Action". I once drove up on some old hippies in a creek...wanted to gouge out my eyes and wash the sockets with acid.

Roger that on the hippies, ive seen a few headed for the hot springs having sex right in the middle of the trail, but other action includes idiots in kia sportage 4x4s getting stuck in the mud and blown chevys on 40's yanking them out!

I wonder if those were the same hippies I drove up on out in Calico ... at least those ones had the decency to get up and finish their business behind a car as I drove past so I didn't have to explain to my kids what they were doing ...

Are any of you talking about the area around the Deep Creek Dam? Years ago when I lived in Hesperia they closed that area to OHV users and a local that lived there, a CHP officer BTW, would call the law on everyone. It sucked cause it was a lot of fun.

I thought it was closed too until a couple years ago one night I was coming down the power line road east of the river and the whole river was fool of rhinos and 4x4's. Then about a year after that i read about a boy drowning in the back of his dads overturned samuri.Thought they would close it for sure, Then last month i was there and it was packed, so it doesnt seem to be closed.

When was that put up? I was just out there about 4 or 5 months ago and there was no bridge. The crossing I'm thinking of is on 3N34 (directly north of Lake Arrowhead in the link below). Maybe that's not part of Deep Creek and I'm just thinking it is. There is a bridge just before Dishpan trail head but that's been there. The parking area at the Dishpan trailhead is closed off though. They did that about 6 months ago.

Maybe we are talking about a different section deep creek. What I am referring to is the crossing from the Pinnacles to Crab Flats now has a bridge. It used to be just a water crossing but until recently, I had not been up there in 10 years so I do not know when it was put up.

Were definetely not talking about the section in Arrowhead, that bridge has been up for years. I thought for a minute there we were talking about the spillway in Hesperia behind silverwood. Someone mentioned 3n59 and I see on a map where that is on the backside. Maybe Deep Creek continues on down that way. I guess its accessible from 173. I havent been back in that area much, but have crossed over the Deep creek bridge many times.

Do you guys know when the bridge was built? It has to be within the last 10 years, I used to cross there on a dirt bike on my way up to crab flats.

Yeah there was a way that you can get to Deep Creek off of 3N59A ... I haven't been back there in about 20 years so it will take some exploring to narrow it down and see if it is even still possible ... blm didn't really exist back then ... it is somewhere between the hotsprings and devil's hole (that USMC 0369 posted) ... I'm gonna head up that way here in the next few weeks so I will post what I find ... if it is worth posting

Found the answer, it was constructed during the summer of 2003, which makes sense because the last time I rode up there was in 2002.
