Thank you gofish for the kind words.

I could possibly do the 23rd but my problem is I work Sundays and cannot take them off. Maybe if you could do Thur, fri, sat????? Normally my wife goes with me on every run unless she is out of town, but for this one I am not sure. She likes her creature comforts....tent, air mattress, pillows, coffee etc etc. There is just not a lot of room in a tj and you need it for other important things like beer

Unfortunately, I probably won't be able to make it. My fall semester starts the Tuesday of the following week. I was really looking forward to this, but I'm not sure yet. If we came back Monday I could probably squeeze it in.

Taking that Friday off, heading out that Thursday and hopefully be in position to set up camp. Run starts Friday, near daybreak. If things change I'll let you know.

Cool, if you guys are finishing Monday or pushing up the date to a sooner time, then count me in.

I can go with you Friday and Saturday.
If you like we can meet in Fresno or Prather Friday night.
Are you wanting to go in at Courtright or Kaiser?????
I would suggest Courtright as it is the farthest away. If there is problems with gas you can get gas at Huntington Lake. Which is about 5 to 8 miles from The Kaiser entrance and all down hill. Whereas from Courtright u have to go to Shaver.....30 miles to get gas.
If you go in at Courtright.....we can camp at Voyager rock campground. From there it is a whole day trip to Thompson Lake and the hardest part of the trail is Thompson Hill.....which I will be able to help you out on....But on Saturday I will have to leave and go back to Courtright as I have to work Sunday.
Then the next hardest will be the gatekeeper at Kaiser as you exit the trail.
Let me know what you want to do.

Is there a spot for someone to leave a truck and trailer while doing this trail?

Are you talking about a tow rig??? If you are, then you can leave it just outside of Shaver lake on the Dinky creek road. From there it is about 30 miles to the trailhead.
The problem is, that you come out at a different place then you go in and it is then about 50 miles by asphalt to get back to the departure point.
Now if you do what I am going to do, which is return on Saturday, there is a parking lot right around the corner from the trailhead where everyone parks their tow rigs.

Is that the entrance where you hit chicken rock first? Also how bad would it be to leave the tow rig at the exit and then commute to the trail head? I want to have a tow rig available just in case.

Yes you can do that. But it is about 50 miles of winding mountain roads from the exit to the entrance. There is a short cut though that will let you bypass Shaver and come out on rock creek road almost to dinky creek

I have no idea what time I'll reach Fresno. I have to stop in Palmdale to pick up my cameraman/co-pilot. My plan is to leave Pomona, Thursday, 3:30pm Aug. 22, 2013.

Just to clarify you are starting the trail on Friday right? Do you still plan on spending 4-5 days on the trail? I might be in for this but I would probably have to leave when sinbob does or make an exit on Sunday am. Thanks

What Im getting Russ is comute up and start Friday am as I doubt a Thursday start would be smart at night, then be done Sunday or Monday. Three days seems very do able, I assume first day to thompson lake or I've seen people go straight to Ershim lake.

Im at a 95% in right now. Im in California City so Ill meet up with csumjr after he grabs his buddy in Palmdale. If you cant come up till Friday you'd probably have to leave pretty early to make it.

Are you towing your jeep????? That is gonna make it along night for you. It is approx. 50 miles by winding road from the exit at Kaiser to the entrance at Courtright.

Do you know how to get to Voyager campground?????

Also, taking hwy 168 thru Fresno is the long way. You want to take hwy 41 to fraint road turn right. take friant road north to copper. take copper to aubery road turn left. When you get to Prather turn left back on to hwy 168. Better raod faster and shorter.

Still deciding on that....Sadly the f-350 will do better on diesel towing the jk than the jk will do loaded with camping gear. Also if I break I have the ability to tow home. I might even leave early thurs and take care of the truck logistics early. What do you advise?

It depends on what it is you are gonna do????

1. If you plan on doing the whole Dusy, then leave early and drop your tow rig off at the exit.
2. If you plan on coming back out with me on Saturday, then drive your rig to the parking lot at the entrance to voyager rock.

I am seriously considering doing this run. It is about 400 miles to Courtright Reservoir from my house or 8 hours approximately. So I would have to leave Thursday morning so I can set up camp before dark. Looks like I would need to take Thurs, Fri and Mon off of work. Hopefully finish the trail sometime on Sun or Mon morning and head home.

Long as work and finances are doing good I'm in. This is one of my bucket list trails and I am not sure when the next opportunity will come along.

Does the timing and game plan sound about right?

Sounds good Mark! That'd be awesome if you could make it.
