according to this Voyager rock campground is the only place we are allowed to have a campfire. You are also supposed to have a California campfire permit for use of a stove or lantern.

I have a campfire permit.

Yes, we can have a campfire Thursday night at Voyager (Chicken) rock
campground.

I also have a campfire permit.

If you like fishing garlic power bait works really well.

I believe the Ranger usually does the trail once every 3 to 4 weeks.

This is the top of chicken rock overlooking Courtright lake and this is who you will be looking for at the campground.

Good I didn't want to be the only one cooking.

Thanks for the fishing tip.

Hopefully not on our week.

Look for the guy with the fat finger? Beside the finger nice photo.

I have to ask, if fire restrictions are in place will anybody object to a cooking fire? Some people care some dont, just want to ask. We normally just have fires with ways to extinguish near by and have never received any guff from rangers.

Ok guys, update for me. I still plan on going, unless the jeep sells prior to the trip. Which I highly doubt will occur. Aside from that lets do this!!!

YA, we drive way to much to deal with the shitty MPG. Really like it and truly enjoy all of the things and people it has introduced me too but I need a family car that I or the wife can commute in for much less. Especially since Im up for a job that would require me driving 100 miles each day on top of the wifes 60 mile commute. Selling the truck is out of the question for now as its paid off so the jeep is on the chopping block. Once the newish car that replaces the jeep is paid off Ill start looking for another one that's more built than ours.

Sounds good to me, I don't have to, or plan to be back at work until Tuesday. Is there a campsite at or near Kaiser Pass?

I'll help with "Fire Watch", if we all pull together as a team, this will be a grand trip.

Plenty of them!!!! A very good one would be at the old cow corral at Red Mountain trailhead just off of Hwy 168.. You make a left into the trailhead go about 200 yards and make a right. There are 5 or 6 flat spots there to camp.

Ok, I have decided since I will be coming back out at Courtright, to take my trailer. What this means is I will be able to take my trail puppies with me.

On the subject of gas!!! it usually takes me, driving normally, a little over a 1/4 tank of gas to get there. Pulling the trailer almost a half a tank. It is about 90% up hill and @88 miles from Fresno to Courtright. That means coming out you will not use very much at all....usually an 1/8 of a tank.
I will be taking 10 extra gallons with me. I will be leaving the trailer at voyager campground. If anybody wants to leave their empty gas cans locked up in the trailer they are welcome to it. You can pick them up either Sunday or Monday. I work at a company that is just down from copper...the road you will be taking up and back.

Falcon Junction Shell is 31 miles from Voyager campground if I was to top off there would I have enough gas to get back to Falcon Junction Shell after finishing the trail or do I need to bring additional gas. Maybe a better question is how much gas do you use on the trail from start to finish?

You can top off there...about 20 cents more a gal. FYI that is Prather and it is 55 miles to voyager campground from there. A lot of very winding 3rd and 4th gear stuff.

The farther up you go the more it will cost you.

At the top of the four lane (hwy going up Tollhouse Ridge) is Cressman's add another 20 cents from Cressman's to Shaver is 6 miles add another 20 to 30 cents. Huntington lake is over $5 bucks a gallon.

Where you will use most of the gas is going up the 4 lane from Prather to Cressman's. it is only 10 miles long but you climb over 3500 feet.

As to how much gas you will need to do the trail....I really don't know.
I will talk to a couple of my buddies here who have done the whole trail and get back to you on that

Ok everyone says you need an extra 5gals of gas to get you through the run.

I also have another option for those of you who do not have gas cans and a way to carry them on your jeep. Because I am taking the trailer and I have 4 or 5 gas cans. I can fill them and you can pay me for the gas at Voyager rock campground. Just let me know who wants to do this

Are the experiences with JKU's? I have about a 250-300 mile range on my tank, I was thinking if I filled up at the begining I should make it. Well either way I'll just bring a gastank.

Sounds like a plan. I will buy gas from you at Voyager. Heck i don't mind paying a little shipping and handling. I would think a full 19 gallon tank should get me 33 miles of trail. The Rubicon did not even use s half tank.

The 4.0 in the TJ will use more fuel than the 3.8 and 3.6 in the Jk
I have at max a 240 mile range if I run it down to fumes....220 miles I tank about 16.5 gals

yuppers better safe than sorry and buying gas from some stranger on the trail will probly cost you an arm and a leg!!!!!!
