There's 2 options on camping..both are right in the immediate area. Stay tuned...

Glad you decided to inquire and welcome to the forum. I've made lifelong friends I call family here.

Thanks Lorie,

It is really nice of you, i already feel welcomed enough . We still have 3 weeks. I"ll try to find a body to take with. Otherwise it will be just me driving 4-5 hours to get to the meet point. I guess you can sign me in, but i will confirm it sometime soon.

Thanks again,
Eddie.

Sounds good...if you don't have a CB, make sure that's at the top of your list. We all have winches and straps etc.

Feel free to ask anything here on the forum or PM.

No fires there or the campground below it. I'm going to call HV and see what's up there...

Coming off Miller dumps us right into HV, so I figure we could suck it up there to have a fire...usually when we can't have a fire anywhere else, the park allows it..so I'm going to call tomorrow. I'll post up what I find out..

EDIT:

Hungry Valley SVRA

Effective September 15, 2013, due to the drought and impending seasonal Santa Ana winds leading to extreme fire danger, all forms of fire, with the exception of gas powered stoves, will be banned at the Cottonwood and Circle Canyon Campgrounds. The Order will remain in effect until significant precipitation is received.

I'll call tomorrow and make sure we can still have fires in the other campsites..

I guess i will ask this on forum.

I knew i will need a CB, so i will take care of it. These questions will qualify my jeep.

Do i need

1) sway bar discos?

2) high lift jack?

3) Lockers?

4) an air pump?

5) Aftermarket off road lights?

Here is my current set up:

2013 JKU Sport with 35" tires and 2.5" lift. Also i have rock side sliders.

It's always helpful if you can disconnect..more flex...the run for that weekend isn't that difficult if you can't disconnect right now...but you def want to resolve that. I have Currie Antirock Swaybar, but wheeled with JKS disconnects for years.

2) high lift jack?
If you don't have one, someone else will.

3) Lockers? No need for lockers on this trail

4) an air pump? Helpful, but you can always air up at the Flying J or use someone elses...but again, eventually, you want your own

5) Aftermarket off road lights? Not necessary, but nice. Headlights work well enough.

Here is my current set up:

2013 JKU Sport with 35" tires and 2.5" lift. Also i have rock side sliders.
You're good to go for this run..you wont have any problems..if you have cash burning a hole in your pocket, go buy all that stuff.. Otherwise, we will all help you out

I ve been looking at jks sway bar discos, but i'm affraid with more flex articulation i will have fender rub, my fenders are stock and the lift is 2.5" teraflex coil lift. What you think? I'm affraid i will need to put flat fenders if i disconnect, right?

I'm a TJ girl but from what I've seen...those things are like milk jugs...you'll want to take care of that. You can't wheel your Jeep connected all the time. Good way to flop and rub all over the place. For this particular run, you'll be OK..not a lot of articulation stuff like Calico and some of the other places we go..

You should go to the technical section of this forum and ask questions...or better yet, post up your own thread with JK questions. Do some research before you do anything.

Hey Eddie..if you want to PM me your number, I'll have one of my good friends give ya a call. He has a similiar rig set up.

I think we are most likely going to camp at Hungry Valley; just for the mere fact of being able to have fires in all but 2 of the camp sites. It's a pretty large park with lots of trails..all pretty easy. They also have a practice area with everything there...I've seen many break their junk there.. check out the link. It has the address/phone number as well... Hungry Valley SVRA

I'm still going to call and confirm thngs up for camp fires..

Wow! This thread took off over night.

OK I am still basically looking at a day run. Not sure who I am going to bring, wife, daughter, son, future son in law we will see.

The other issue I have is that my wife, daughter and mother-in-law are going to all jump out of a plane. They may do it on the 19th. If that happens then I will be out because I will be forced to go what them all plummet to their death. Not bad enough that I lose all the women in my life, they are going to make me watch.

But the date has not been set yet.

Also, Lori camping is not completely out for me but still just planning the day trip.

Eddie, I have seen multiple stock JKs make this run with no problems. The only problem I have seen with a stock JK was a flat tire. Like Lori said you should be fine and this is her main playground for a large portion of the year.

But buy a CB. If you are going to wheel a CB makes life so much nicer.

Welcome to the site.

Hey Eddie, one more thing. If you dont want to camp there is a hotel at the Flying J - our meeting spot and when we finish the run we are literally ten minutes away from our meeting place so it would be convenient to stay at that hotel. IMO.

I have sky dived...I was a little disappointed After the initial jump out of the plane, it's kind of too mellow/boring. I had my guy do an inverted back summersault out of the plane for me...Hey, for $100, I wanted my money's worth. That was up north in Lodi. Here, it cost twice as much

Well, I hope you guys can make it Rich, and of course I want you to camp.

As for Miller Jeep Trail Eddie, this trail and surrounding trails are only open for 6 approx months out of the year. Because they are an hour and a half away, as opposed to 4 hours, I do make sure I put on multiple runs every year. I try and hold a "clean up" run on one of the trails every year as well...depending on if I can get anyone interested to go. There's a bunch of trails out that way; all pretty moderate or easy. Miller being the hardest. The first climb will have you 2nd guessing your decision to run it but you'll see, you'r rig is more than capable. No worries! We can sandwich you in the middle somewhere

As for the link I posted; Hungry Valley, that's a huge park full of all kinds of trails..and it's right where we'll be camped....and it's where we end up after finishing Miller and driving back down the mountain. It'll be a good time! * The park by the way, is open year round.

I've done a lot of stuff and have a large "bucket list" but sky diving is not on it. My mother-in-law has about 100 jumps in and that is how she met her husband the paratrooper.

She hasn't jumped in years and now with two new hips wants one last jump with her daughter and grand daughter. Actually pretty cool but not my thing. I'll watch. And probably pray.

Ok, so just off the phone with the park. Fires are allowed at all the other campsites...so going off experience, I'm calling our home for the weekend in Upper Scrubs campground. It's 2nd best to Circle Canyon (which is one of the ones closed) I will update the first post and link the HV Park. There are directions to the park on the site and you can then pull up a map of the inside of the park where you can see all the campgrounds and trails. Everything inside the park is marked with nice signs.

If anyone coming would like my phone number, just PM me.
FYI-Channel 21 CB

Everyone camping, please bring wood. All too often only a couple people bring it and then we end up freezing b/c everybody didn't do their part..I'm only camping this time because it's been requested, so don't have me freeze my rear end off!!! Lecture over.

**Careful when looking at the map. There's an Upper and Lower Scrubs campground. We're doing UPPER. It's a bit secluded and away from people..which is how I like it.

Even better news!!!

I am on leave from work that week...which means, I can get there very early and snag the sites we want to ensure we get that campground. Cool huh

Ok, updates to the first post coming up....and always look there for the latest and greatest until the run goes down!

Looks like we'll be hanging a flag on Quails Pass for my dear friend Texas that weekend..bring your cameras/phones. We always take a group photo!

Jeep you'll be looking for in the campground

Hmmm. Just got off the phone with my bride. IF they jump that weekend they will be jumping on the 20th which means I will be free on the 19th which means I am good at the very least for a day run on the 19th.

Now that I am thinking about it, I really need to plan a trip out there with her in late April or May after the rain and it greens up a bit in HV.

I did that too before the first time I ran it. The videos on Youtube made it look WAY harder than it really is IMO. Freaked me out but I went anyway. First time through with that IH8RDS chick (I forget her name) and that RadarRob2012 dude (Bob or Bobby or Robby or something like that).

Good times and actually we have been friends ever since.

Moonrider- I'm like you. A little shy but would love to go. Not sure if my rig is ready but I'm close. Not sure about the 4 hours drive down. Anyone on here from the SF Bay Area? Would love to start something like this up here
