Easy Run for New Wheelers April 4th weekend

Or for anyone who just wants to hang out and relax on some trails..call it a Meet and Greet if ya want..

Every now and then, I like to host an easy & relaxing run for the newer wheelers. Hungry Valley is perfect for that. For those of you who don’t know, Hungry Valley is trail riding. There’s no rock crawling, no lockers required. It's a good place to get a feel for your Jeep b/c there is a practice area as well. If you want to try some things with your Jeep, the practice area has some rocks, Sluice, steps, mud pit, etc.. Stock Jeeps are fine for HV. I will run us up Pronghorn, to Quails Pass, Vics Cat, and Sterling trails. Pipeline too if ya want! It’s very mild compared to Calico or BB but it’s still fun..I usually always see a lot of deer, bunnies and squirrels.

If you want to camp, I'm camping Friday - Sunday!

Be nice to sit around camp and chat over a beer and grub!

Info/directions: Hungry Valley SVRA
Meet place Saturday: 10am in the practice area at the Aliklik campground area.
Campground location for campers: Upper Scrubs ***Careful--there's an Upper and Lower Scrubs; we'll be in Upper Scrubs.

CB CH- 4
Pack lunch and drinks for the day!

**If you're camping PLEASE bring wood ***
Also FYI- $5 day pass for the park and $10 to camp.

When you come in the park, they will give you a map. (or you can download it off the website above)

Aliklik Practice area is essentially just straight up the road on the left a couple miles from the entrance gate if you're coming in off Smokey Bear exit side.

Ok everybody! Another update!

The couple people I was going to meet at 0745 Saturday, don't need me to do that for them, so it looks like I'll be at camp instead. If anyone else was planning on that, just let me know!

You can come to camp if you're early, otherwise, I'll see you at Aliklik at 10am.

If you're coming from LA area, get gas in Castaic. From there, it's about 20 minutes to Smokey Bear exit.

It is.. you can learn a few things there; esp in the practice area. As for the trails, they are all just dirt with a mostly little hills. Pronghorn has the biggest climb on a rock slab but you'll be fine. Just need 4 wheel drive in the park. Check out the link..it has directions and info. It's a drive for you...but every time I do Calico, Cougar Buttes or BB, it's a 3 hour minimum for me. You just sort of get used to it if you want to wheel. Big Bear for me is 4 hours from door step to trailhead. But it's gorgeous there with killer trails. They have easy stuff there as well..

If anyone was looking at this post...

FYI- I screwed up on my weekend dates. This can only be a HV run. CB isn't an option after all on this particular weekend.

Lori, you're awesome for setting up these runs. I'd join you, but I'll be in Utah for EJS that weekend... and the rest of April actually. For those who can go, have a great time!!

In going to twist in Jason's arm a bit and see if I can't convince him to go play in the dirt instead of walking around a peaking lot looking at old MOPARS.

I'm hoping to hit up the Spring Fling at Woodley Park in Van Nuys early Saturday morning and then head to HV. Maybe we could meet up mid day on Saturday and join you for some wheelin' and campin'. Who's Califrog? Is she with you?

Hey all. Just registered here. Id like to try join you guys if theres room. While Ive done a lot of wheeling over the years in the pursuit of fish, animals, fossils, and photographs this is my first Jeep. Be nice to get out and play a little and meet some new people.

I live in Lancaster, 45 mins east of HV. Dont know if I would camp but would like to try and join you at least for the day.

Congrats on your first Jeep! You're going to love it! You'll find the possibilities are endless....and so are the mods (if you choose to go that route)

I'll add you to the list for Saturday's run...the camping for me is the other half of the fun. ..and just a way to relax and get to know people.

Thanks much. I love camping I just dont know if my schedule will allow for it next weekend.

Loving my jeep so far. My last vehicle was a toyota tacoma. I loved it and was sad to see it go but as ive always had trucks i thought id change it up and try out something smaller this time around. I do miss having a truck bed though. Going to have to build a utility trailer, right after my bumpers are finished. :-)

Now That sounds like a good first plan!

And I had a Yo Yo for 10 years. Loved her. Took me everywhere! And I wheeled her like crazy! 200 thousand miles and I let her go..hard day.

Sounds good. I'm going to check the show schedule, but maybe we will come up all day Saturday and just leave early on Sunday so I can stop by the car show on the way home.

That sounds even better! You guys are a hoot!

Side note: Look at the weather for Gorman...I'm keeping an eye on it. If it's going to rain Saturday, we may need to look at switching the run to Sunday. I'm not wheeling in the rain..defeats the purpose for me. It's a bit far out now and things always change...so we'll see.... WHERE'S SUMMER!!!!
