Fun at Big Bear

My buddy called last night with a last minute trip to Big Bear in mind. Of course who am I to let down a friend. We ran Jacoby Canyon, Holcomb, went to Baldwin Mine and attempted to get to John Bull Trail. Some knuckle head in a Dodge Ram was unprepared for the trail, was stuck and blocking the way (I posted a funny pic of it under off-topic). Anyway, we went to Gold Mountain trail instead. The weather was great and it's been a while since I've been on a run. Good times!!!

We went up 3N64, I guess it's actually Jacoby Canyon, not Holcomb (sorry this was my first Big Bear trip). Then by Baldwin Mine to John Bull. After getting tired of waiting for the stuck Dodge, we went back to Gold Mountain Trail.

Here is a picture of the stuck Dodge on John Bull and the nicest Cherokee club ever, who pulled the Dodge out stacking rocks and winching him along.

Gold Mountain is fun. I love the way the shale sounds... like driving over skulls. John Bull is a fun trail. I've been up and down it, one time in the snow which was crazy. Show us some more pictures, haven't been to Big Bear this year yet but it look like it's time!

As you can tell the photos are not very good. That's because we forgot the camera at home. We took the pictures with a cell phone and nothing else turned out.

I was up in Big Bear this weekend too. I went and did Gold Mountain yesterday with my kids and a friend and his kids. That trail has gotten much more torn up since last year when I ran it last. It is finally starting to seem to earn it's black diamond rating.

The Sidekick map I have says Gold Mountain isn't a diamond, but as tore up as it was I though it should be rated as one. I was glad I had a locker for sure.

I want to go back and do John Bull. I'm thinking a weekday might be better with fewer people.

Some of the maps I have list Gold Mountain as a diamond - others don't. And it never has really earned a diamond. But the trail markers have it listed as a diamond for sure - and have for as long as I can recall.

One thing with that trail - you gotta run it up from Baldwin lake to Holcomb instead of the other way around - much more fun in that direction.

For Bull - yes - weekday will be much easier crowd wise. That is a very fun trail - but usually just too many people on it. Or at least - that has been my luck.
