I should have my new tires by then and I have my eye on a cb, too. I'm up for either.

Bunny trail?
I'll go for anything, you can pull me up, or through..
I'm following the strongest winch..
But...it would really be fun to meet some of you.

Tiny, I may be able to help you out on tires, as soon as I get my lift kit on. Mine are almost new, but will look funny with a 3.5 lift..( I found some rims on craigslist, and have been polising them for 2 days now...I hope I don't get them dirty off road

Not sure if I will have a driveable TJ on the 10th. fenders will be in tuesday, wheels and tires hopefully soon, then the build begins. If the TJ is on jackstands, if people didn't mind, I could drive the WJ as it will do most anything stock TJ's will (4" lift on 31's) and has rocker protection, CB and recovery points.

Thanks LilRed, I think I'm set on the tires. I just have to get them in in time!!!! I hope they make it here. I've changed so many flats, I'm an old pro at it. These stock tires seem to seek out road bombs.

And I need to install my new speakers and go get a CB. I have my eye on a cobra one.

Count me in..
I took the li'l red out this weekend, and went thru, and over stuff I never thought I would make..
I even found a mud bog pit over the axles deep 60 feet long, and played in that for a good 30 minutes..Spent 2 hours cleaning the mud when I got home, but it's all good.
This spot I found (in Bonsal) wouldn't warrant a full day, but it has enough trails, jumps, hill climbs to keep busy for a few hours. Maybe with more than one Jeep you could spend all day, you know stop to get pictures of your ride in tuff spots.
It would be a blast after a rain, and is fun dry.

I'm not sure if froaders still use CB's but I bought one on Ebay cheap, so I'll have one. ("roger over")

Terror, did your tires come in?

Because there are some stock to "slightly modified" Jeeps in the group, I'm proposing one of the following:

Bee Canyon: It starts just outside of Hemet and ends up in Idyllwild It is a pretty easy drive, but halfway up there is a road that goes up to one of the peaks that is a little more challenging. We could do a morning run and have lunch at the park or at one of the places in Idyllwild. This is a pretty scenic run, the views make up for the lack of challenge.

Cleghorn Road: Starts at the Cleghorn off ramp from the 15 freeway just south of Wrightwood. This is actually two roads that criss-cross several times. There are challenging and easy routes pretty much the whole way. The trail ends near Silverwood Lake. There is also a second trail that goes up to Lake Arrowhead. Both are passable by stock Jeeps with some challenges along the way for those interested in trying something harder.

Now for the disclaimer: I've never been on either of these trails. I'm going by information in books and from other people. I'm fine with coordinating either one, but I'm not responsible for you having a good time! Please be realistic about your equipment, breakdowns are never fun. I'm hoping that everyone has a CB (or at least some people).

So someone pick a date and a destination and we'll do it.

Ok, so who's in??? I'm in for March 10th and I have two to ride with me. I'll also make sure I'm available for April 15 if GolfSpaz can make it. I have my new tires and am itching to try them out.

Let's get a list of yays.

Who's in?

I am most likely not going to be able to make in on the 10th. The suspension is almost done (hopefully by tonight) but tomorrow it goes in for paint. It will depend on how long it takes to pull the front clip, paint and replace the hood and fenders. I still don't have my flares and hardware. Tires and wheels came in today but I may get the wheels powdercoated first. Plus I am sure it will need a bit of tweaking after I get it back from paint as I cannot even mount the tires until the fenders are on. I was thinking of taking the WJ, but I still have many hours to put into the TJ first.

If your jeep could have a TJ twin, mine is it. Red, black hardtop, full doors. Your paint is in better condition. you're right, you do "need" a lift. Looks good.

Ok.... Looks like we have a group.

Here's what I'm thinking:

Borrego Springs: We can do the trail up into Cougar Canyon:

Its mostly sandy roads with three water crossings (yes, that is the road)

and a challanging rock climb

This is a easy to moderate run with a few challenges. Its do-able by everyone in the group, some just may have to plan their lines a little better.

It will take about an hour to do this trip from Borrego Springs. Afterwards, we can go up to the Calcite mine or to Fonts point.

We'll meet in Temecula at 8:00am and leave from there (We can figure out a second meeting place for those comming from the east like Spaz) It will take about an hour to get to Borrego Springs

We should be back to Temecula before dark. Pack a lunch and bring plenty of water to drink. Also bring your camera. If you are interested, please PM me and we'll tighten up the details.

Hope to see you there!
//Brian

Thanks much, I'm trying. I'll just have to wait and see. Like I said I still have a bunch of junk to do to the TJ. Lift, shocks, steering, driveshaft, wheels and tires are on. Still have to do axles and gears. Rockers will be here Tuesday. It looks like it's going to paint on Thusday instead of today so I may be down there helping out on Sat (10th). Not sure if they would know what to do with my OBA and the rest of the stuff under the hood.

And my WJ has bigger tires than many of the TJ's going (and discos, CB, rockers). I've a friend with an LJ I may bring or ride shotgun with as well.

Spaz,

Do you want to meet us near Temecula or would you rather hook up with us in Borrego Springs?

It's about a half hour longer drive for you if we meet in Aguanga where the 371 hooks up with 79S. Your best route is 86S to s22 to Borrego springs. Either way it's up to you, PM me and let me know.

Everyone else: We'll meet at the Starbucks on the north side of Hwy 79S (between Margarita and Meadows across the street from Walmart.) at 8:00am. (Which, according to the U.S. Naval Observatory: Astronomical Applications Department, is 1 hour and 53 minutes past sunrise)

PM me if you are serious about going so we know who all is joining us. I'll send you my cell phone number so you can let us know if you are running late.

I don't think it takes an hour to get to Aguanga does it? Since we're meeting at 8..... I could be wrong.

And LilRed.... Not to worry, I'm well versed in slapping the hell out of people. I'll jump right in.

Spaz, can you make it 8:30? It will take us about 15 -20 minutes from Starbucks to get to the 371 junction. We can move our meeting time later if you think that 9:00 is the soonest you can make it there. We'll meet you at the dirt lot on the north-west corner of the 371/79S junction. Want us to bring you a coffee?

I don't think a CB is needed, we are not going that far..
If you get really stuck use the cell phone..
Besides, if you get really stuck the rest of us will stop to watch you struggle to get out ...DOH!

I just installed a CB, but I'm not sure if it works, all I can hear is spanish...they don't reply when I try for a radio check..

Unless you have tuned your antenna, do not transmit. If the resistance is too high, it can damage the radio. You want to get the SWR set before transmitting, but listening is just fine.

Okay, I think I'm ready
Diffs, and tranny oil changed today. (I figured they may get a little work out the weekend)
Just gotta hope the old engine holds together.
Got the bumper from hell almost ready, and the lights should be in this week, as well as my little 12V air compressor.

I just know when I get back from this "fun run" I will want a locker, and big azz tires..
