Tiny, we have to stop meeting in public like this, people will talk....

Ok, the local Temecula/Murrieta club is called Inland Jeep Freeks (<- click link for their web page) They meet once a month at TJ's pizza in Murrieta. Next Meeting is on March 11th.

There are two weekend trips coming up: This weekend we are going to Calico and the first weekend in March we are going to TDS out in Ocotillo Wells. I'm pretty sure your little Jeep would do fine at either place. On March 17th, we are doing a day run to Big Bear. We'll probably do John Bull in the snow, lifted a bit with 31's are pretty much a minimum requirement.

They are also planning a Mojave road trip in April. They are going to drive out to Avi on Friday night and stay at the casino, hit the trail early Saturday morning, camp at Mid Hills in the Mojave National Preserve, finish the road on Sunday and head home. This is a trip that can be done in a stock Jeep (but you will need new tires first!)

You need to sell more mugs, lots more mugs, so you can get that thing lifted and get some real tires on it. (Here that people? Buy a WF Coffee Mug, heck, by two! Support the forum and help tiny lift her Jeep!)

I almost called you on Monday. A friend of mine wanted to take a trip down the north end of Cougar Canyon to Bailey's cabin. He said that the trail was rated a "7" and there was one grade that would be hard for my Jeep to make it back up, but he was pretty sure we could make it. He said that he did that trail a few years ago and a stock jeep would never make it, so I didn't call. It turned out that when they opened the trail up last September, they graded it. I've been on worse fire roads, you could have easily made it. One of these weekends, you, me and Spaz will have to meet up and run it. The scenery is great and driving through the sand wash is kinda fun.

Jeeze Bri, I'd have come with ya, even if I had to sit in the back seat.

Calico this huh? Is that far? I got my tire fixed, after the guy asked me how a little bitty thing like me got it all the way up on the back of my jeep..... what a dork.

Think I'd be ok with my tires? I really can't swing new ones right now.

I'll hunt you down you don't call me next time and I'm pretty mean. Small, but mean.

Wow, north of Barstow... I guess you guys are camping?

I thought about sucker punching him, but I really didn't want to have to pay full price, plus, I'm on my best behavior right now. I still don't trust my tires though. Course, that's not real fair since it was a SCREWDRIVER... and a nail.... and they found a piece of metal inside the tire.

Yes, the club camps together about once a month. It's a great group to spend the weekend with. They do community breakfasts and usually one group dinner. I spoke to the guy that is organizing the runs; he says that the Saturday and Sunday runs will both be moderate to difficult with a few good sized waterfalls to climb. He suggested against trying to take a stock jeep on either run. The Saturday night run will be a bit easier and a stocker could make it with a little help.

They are planning a few day trips that will be suitable for a stock Jeep in March and April. I'll keep you posted!

Maybe next month we can get a group together and do the Bee Canyon run or go to Bailey's cabin.

tiny twisted my arm so I might be interested in something in March as well. As far as my availability, everything is fine to go now but when packages start to arrive and how long the TJ gets tied up on jack stands will determine whether or not I can make it on a given day. I'll have to play it by ear. I was pm'd by a beginnner on another forum who is looking for some instruction so this might be good for him as well. He is in the Diamond Bar area and this is his first Jeep.

bashing?

Hey gang,
I just thought I would pop in, and say hey.
I'd like to go on a run (easy stuff)
You have to promise not to laugh at my bumpers..
I have them just about finished..(put welder away now, what my wife keeps telling me.)
They sort of resemble a bulldozer front blade, or a snow plow..
At least it's something to tie a rope to, so you guys can drap me anywhere my li'l toy jeep can't go.

Question, in the Jeep world when you go off road do you call it bashing?
I race off road R/C cars, and if you're not on the track, it's called bashing.

lilred, never bashing. At its best it is crawling (krawlen). otherwise it is wheeling (wheelen), or off roading (froaden). My days are best when nothing breaks.

Unlimited, it appears that tiny has elected you impromptu trail leader. Since it looks like everybody wants bunny trails, my only request is that I don't have to drive forever to get there. Somewhere close to your neck of the woods would be appropriate I think.

Maybe I can throw my hat in the ring, and work a run in with you guys, but san diego is almost 5 hours from me, that's one of the reasons I haven't signed up yet. Maybe we can work something out in the desert. Im sure that between unlimited and I we can squeeze a few in for the more difficult runs. Just let me know the weekends and areas planned ahead of time so I can set something up.

Unlimited's away this weekend I think (see up thread) but I think we should look at dates. If you have a no go date or a absolutely I'm free date, post it up.

I'm ok any weekend in March I think. And I'm more able to do day runs, but I'm willing to get up at the butt crack of dawn to meet you guys a couple hours away. Hell, I might even be willing to camp since I can sleep pretty comfy in the jeep.

Ok, we'll put something together in March. I'm thinking the trail up Bee Canyon to Idylwild would be fun. It's pretty easy and I think that stockers would do fine on it. Or maybe something in Anza Borrego?

Sundays are tough for me, the next one I have available is April 15th. Saturdays are usually better; I could put something together on March 10 if you would rather do a Saturday.

Because there are some stock to "slightly modified" Jeeps in the group, I'm proposing one of the following:

Bee Canyon: It starts just outside of Hemet and ends up in Idyllwild It is a pretty easy drive, but halfway up there is a road that goes up to one of the peaks that is a little more challenging. We could do a morning run and have lunch at the park or at one of the places in Idyllwild. This is a pretty scenic run, the views make up for the lack of challenge.

Cleghorn Road: Starts at the Cleghorn off ramp from the 15 freeway just south of Wrightwood. This is actually two roads that criss-cross several times. There are challenging and easy routes pretty much the whole way. The trail ends near Silverwood Lake. There is also a second trail that goes up to Lake Arrowhead. Both are passable by stock Jeeps with some challenges along the way for those interested in trying something harder.

Now for the disclaimer: I've never been on either of these trails. I'm going by information in books and from other people. I'm fine with coordinating either one, but I'm not responsible for you having a good time! Please be realistic about your equipment, breakdowns are never fun. I'm hoping that everyone has a CB (or at least some people).

So someone pick a date and a destination and we'll do it.

I've been on Cleghorn, and Rawkon from this forum has been on it more than once. It's pretty much a fire road with many offshoots that go over fun stuff and come back to the fire road.
Even much of the challenging stuff is no problem for a stock Wrangler.
