I think I'm hooked! Had my first group run on Sunday, and it was awesome, hot, really friggin hot, but awesome. We went thru Last Chance Cyn by Red Rock State Park (Mojave Area) which for the most part is an easy trail but has a few rocky areas,"the V notch" (for those who attempted it), and a rockface climb that kept things interesting. It was actually the first time I'd been on the trail with other jeeps where you could see the lines others were taking and where spotters were available. I learned a lot that day and realized how far I have to go. Biggest take away = SPOTTER . . . it's all about the spotter! I managed to get myself hung up on what should have been a fairly simple obstacle, but with a spotter, was able to climb some pretty radical stuff, that I never would have even attempted before, like it was nothing. To all those spotters out there who put up with newbies like me who don't have a clue . . . YOU ROCK! Really looking forward to Big Bear this weekend . . . shouldn't be quite so hot up there! Hope to see you all out there on the trails sometime

Here's a couple of pics of the "V Notch", that a few of the braver souls attempted. The 2nd pic of the Wrangler is Barbara who put all the fellas to shame by cruising thru the notch like it was a walk in the park . . . that's her husband on the side spotting her! There are some really cool video's posted up on MJR by Russ Chung (the trip is listed under Rowher Trail in the Trail Reports section) inclunding one of the H1 squeezing thru the notch . . . and even one of me conquering a ledge which looks like childs play next to the notch, but come on I'm new at this . . . give me a break!
