I thought it was disappointing for a Black Diamond trail, it should be blue rated. It had decent scenery and its a somewhat steep, winding downhill into a flat area with trees that are green because they are fed by a very small water stream (not big enough to play in) All trails are good and I like to do every one I can, but like I said I was expecting a bit more...

My rating = Good newbie picnic trail

We had a great time as usual! Trails were fun (cause I didn't break anything - sorry Jeff) and the folks are always the best part! Too bad a few couldn't make the run but there is always next time.
Nick, hope your daughter is better today.
Will try to get pics or a short video up later today...

Sorry if I oversold it, but Bill describes it pretty much how I remember it. In a Jeep this is moderate. A full sized truck with IFS may find it more difficult. There really needs to be separate rating systems for Jeeps and Trucks. Figured it might make a good alternate moderate run for the M&G.

I want to check out Pipe's Canyon and Bean Flats here soon too. Never been on those and might check them out during the BBFF weekend since it's out of the way. I'm not making plans until a few days out though. Learned my lesson on that lmao

Yeah, I wasn't going to bring that up. Why do you I want to be the last guy from now on. None of you can see.

I couldn't believe 15 jeep driving over my front plate and nobody saw it in the middle of the dirt road.

You didn't oversell it and I didn't mean to suggest that I didn't enjoy it, I just meant that the Trail has the same rating as Bull or Dishpan and that is not accurate....

I don't think they rate them by vehicle, its probably just a general rating.

Lost a plate on the trail that everyone passed over? Cool thing you found it. Glad you you had a good time with us. Looking forward to wheeling with you again soon.

I agree that the trail was very enjoyable. I originally got my Jeep to get me off the beaten trail. Yesterday hit the spot. Great scenery, weather was perfect, saw wildlife (snake) and hung out with many great people.

Thanks Bill, that puts it in perspective. So any real obstacles? Would you say easier than Gold Mtn, or about the same?

Much easier than Gold Mountain, no real obstacles or need for a locker. I put it in low down for engine braking and up because its steep in places. I took a couple of pics and will try to post them if I get a chance...

These jeeps are up to high, you can't see in the middle of the road. I'm gonna get a big magnet and hang it about an inch off the ground the next time you're ahead of me.

I'd say its something worth checking out... it wouldn't take to long to go to the bottom and cruise around and climb back out...
I'm gonna go back soon and see if I can find away to get down into the wash just north of the flats...
I woke up this morning needing to do some more wheeling today so I hit two of the three canyons east of Rattlesnake canyon and south of the town of JV...these are Black Dimond trails on one of my older maps...I'll just say that the two I ran are a ton of fun and have some good rocks. I wish I had time to run the third one....I'm differently going back out to these trails again soon before it gets hot...

I just so happen to know of such a way. At the northeast corner of the flats is a road that goes up to the top of a hill (which is the SBNF boundary). That road goes down the ridge and into the wash. The last bit is really really hairy (50% slope) and I think it's commonly referred to as "suicide slide". I'm not sure if that wash is private property, blm, or big horn wilderness though.

I was talking to a guy from the group behind us on john bull who said they just came from horsethief. Told him we also came from there. He asked if we did the valley floor or not. I wasn't sure, he said you'd know it cause it ain't nothing but rocks. Sounds like there's something else down there.

I just looked on Google maps and we could have gone down into the wash rather easily. The road that everyone turn on after the short creek rest was the way to the hill. On the hill you can go down into the wash by riding the ridge.

Here's a few pics.

Not entirely easy... that is the "suicide slide" I was referring too ... high rollover area on a 50 degree slope

the other issue is who does that land belong to ... it's not SBNF ... don't know if it's private property, blm, or wilderness ...

I think I would like to figure out how to get to the wash from the north side..."Old Women Springs rd"
I was checking it out yesterday but I was on a mission to run the Black Diamond trails south of JV...
I think I've got a cold coming on...lol
Anyone want to play hooky and go wheeling tomorrow?

I'm finally picking up my rig tomorrow afternoon ...

Looked and that area is not wilderness, the boundary for the wilderness area is south of the flat. Bessemer Mine is right there so it could be private property, only one way to see about that. Looks like SANTA FE FIRE ROAD is the best way to get out there from Old Women Springs Rd. Its about 8 miles east of Cafe 247 and it heads straight to the wash.

Dude... I looked on USGS imagery and see nothing but rocks. When you can see rocks from space you know they have to be good.

I can't make it tomorrow, but Thursday or Friday could be doable. I might feel a itch in my throat coming on.
