There's also a fire road called Morton Peak that starts in Mentone. Leads to Thomas hunting grounds. Nice scenic drive, never locked as far as I know. That was my first 'off pavement' adventure when I had about 100 miles on my Jeep. I still want to do that one again sometime because my wife got freaked out in a steep area and made me turn around and head back.

Morton Peak

I'm real close to Reche Canyon too. I've been meaning to check it out. Not quite sure where to enter though.
I'll go downtown and see about getting a key. I'm across from the plaza so its not far. I guess I could suck up a hundred bucks IF the trail is actually worth it... PICS ANYONE?

Reche Canyon has a few decent quick trails. Nothing spectacular at all. Some of them are really steep and rutted and I wouldn't even think of attempting them. I have seen a few people try, most fail. I had a friend that lived in Reche back in the day so I know the area sort of well. The trail to the mines is pretty easy. All but two of the mines are flooded and the open ones are cool to check out but nothing like Big Horn in wrightwood. Recently the bee hives were placed back in the area so if your tops down and your running with two teen girls and an 8 year old girl, as I was, expect screams when the inside of jeep becomes bee infested.

I thought of driving on Reche Canyon and seeing if I notice any trails with no signs sometime, but I'll probably stay away from it then lol.

Hi IE'rs-
There are a couple people that haven't voted and are attending- but it looks like we'll be in Riverside.
Chime in if you'd like to attend on the 11th.

Since I'm in Corona, I've run Skyline a lot. Lately, the forest service, on motorcycles, are out quite a bit. If you get caught off the fire road they can site you and will if they are in the mood. They are pushing to keep everyone only using the fire roads, although there are great hill climbing trails just off the road that now look like possible fire roads (that excuse didn't fly with the FS guy that saw me). They are now fencing areas to keep us out.

Thanks for the info. I also go to Skyline a lot- but only when its not blisteringly hot. I usually hike with the mutt and head up afterwards in the Jeep. Is the Beacon weather station area open all time now? The last time I was there the Ranger said they were closing the Skyline gate and the gate just past Beacon (no key for that one) Monday-Saturday. But that was early summer.
Getting a key for Skyline has been on the agenda since I bought the Jeep but I keep putting off the drive into Riverside.

Last time I took that trail it was open. They have fenced off the large hill area which included a pond farther in, just at the turnoff. That may have been due to fire potential.

No key yet?
I live near corona and I go up to skyline all the time!
I'll pick up a key Monday if more people are interested in checking it out!

You know the key is $100 deposit right? You'll have a heck of a time trying to figure out where to go (if you haven't already). Just head straight to the cashier/payment desk. I've spoken to 5 people and no one knew what the heck I was talking about ("key for what?"). Took forever to find out just to go to the cashier's desk.

Hi there are clubs out there only personally know of one. We get together the second Saturday of each month. We try to go trailing when we can. Some of us get out more than others. You can PM me for more info. I personally am in the high dessert. There is a run October 11 in big bear we are camping at 7 oaks. There will be a lot of people there you can meet too. Think there is about 20-30 singed up now. Great opportunity to meet people. Here is the link. You should try to make it.

I love it. Gotta trim the fenders getting the control arms in back replaces this week. My axel is shifted to the drivers side in the rear so my tire offset is real bad but found a shop up here to do the work. BlackSheep off road the guy is real nice now let's hope his work is just as nice!

I've met that "Black Sheep" guy. As you say, he seems to be a real nice guy. Looking forward to getting a report on the price and quality of work he does.

Will let you know. It was nice that he didn't treat me like a typical woman who didn't know what was going on. He ordered the parts I wanted and didn't tell me I needed a more expensive set.

I am in Murrieta and hit the Saddleback mountain range quite often. Several ways to get up to the Peak. Indian truck trail and Bedford Rd. Both are about 3 miles apart. You can also go in from Orange County and Ortega Hwy. Skyline is a pain as usally the gate is locked now that the construction is going on.

Let me know when you want to go wheelin. There is a nice spot right here in Murrieta with days of trails. easy, medium and nasty.

PM me when you want to go.

Nick

Why do you need a club, if you know a lot of people, with the same interest? Why can't you just post and say "Blah Blah, Saturday Blah Blah"? I did, and made some lifelong friends, on THIS forum. Clubs, are complicated....friends are simple...

Clubs have there place they organize events, trail maintenance, clean ups and fund raisers. IE4w runs Forrest Fest a fund raising effort to keep the trails open that WF members use !! also monies raised fund scholarships and charitable needs in Big Bear. Complicated maybe but needed to keep BLM and Forrest Service honest we loose trail access every day somewhere.

Don't want to join a club join a organization like CAL4 wheel or CORVA they fight the fight every day and need your support to do it.
