Is Nightmare Gulch area open?

I was thinking about doing a day trip today out to the Red Rock Canyon area today and I was wondering if the trails are still open this time of the year. I know they close it in January but I haven't found an exact date.

If anyone wants to meet me out there let me know. I hate to wheel alone but I've been wanting to wheel here forever because its so close to me.

It must be nice to be able to go out and wheel during the week.

Nightmare Gulch is open to 4x4 vehicles 2nd half of the month July through January.

I'm probably too late but here's a compilation of GPS tracks for many of the trails out there. I laid down all these tracks myself. They include Last Chance Canyon, Nightmare Gulch, Opal Canyon, Mesquite Canyon, Goler Gulch and Schmidt Tunnel.

It is not closed till the 15th of the month it is closed THROUGH the 15th of every month. Which means it is open the 16th through the end of the month, whatever that is for that month.

Have made a couple trips out there on the 15th of a month only to find the gates closed.

You can go in through Black Rock Canyon which is going in the same way as Nightmare, just make a left at the top of the hill instead of a right. You will end up where Nightmare exits out, then down the hill. To the right takes you to last chance, to the left takes ya up to the tunnel and other sites to see.

Can't get lost on the black rock trail, off shoots have been closed, make no turns and you will get dumped out onto Last Chance. IF, my air pump was back from repair I'd be happy to give ya a tour of the place.

Thanks DAK. I ended just exploring Last Chance canyon yesterday. By the time I got there it was getting sort of late so I just wanted to get through it. I will definitely like to do another run up that way in the next couple weeks. Let me know when you're free and we can set up a run.

Critter, you were not in last chance canyon. Not with those pix. That last pic shows you two canyons away.

I will post ya the last chance/nightmare run when we decide on a date and time.

No I know that was an offshoot. I think it was EP108. It paralleled Last Chance.

Cool,

It is a great photo. Nice to get off the beaten path and see what is about.
