It's not a good idea. I've put on a lot of Calico runs. I am almost positive you'll come out with some sort of damage. I've seen it too many times. Hell, rigs lifted and armored come out of Calico with damage; stock bumpers, sliders left on the trail, dents on the body and underbelly. The damn tie rod tacoed. It's all really not good. We have a lot of ground to cover Saturday and Sunday. I'd hate for something to happen and then need to worry about getting back to camp.

The rocks are very sharp out there. Maybe you can ride with someone so you can check it out?

Lorie

Come on Lorie, he's Rockin' a Rubicon. We've gotten lesser rigs through. And any breakage is a good excuse to mod. At least he won't leave a plastic bumper on Wall St. like Gonzo did. And all he had was a stock Unl. Sport with sliders. Lol

BTW, Good Morning.

Its not a good idea and you know it. Gonzo got lucky. Also.. A few of these guys making this run haven't wheeled in forever. I'm sure the last thing they want to worry about is recovery for what could be potentially hours, depending on what he bent or put a hole through due to lack of clearance.

I obviously can't stop anyone from running trails, but the risk for damage is high.

If it were my rig, I'd lift it first, Rubicon or not. If you want to run it, it's up to you. You know the risks.....

My 2 cents!

Lol. I know it better than most, and you know that's right. Lol. But what a great excuse to mod.

I feel your pain of needing to wheel!

If you wanted to, you could run with me Friday. I plan on a night run. Probably be around 9- or so before we leave camp to run. I've got my photog guy riding Saturday, but I'm sure someone else has room for you if you decide it isn't worth the risk.

I get that it's a Rubicon, but gearing and lockers aren't the issue, clearance is.

Will your rig make it? Probably. Will you come out damage free? From what I've seen over the years, probably not.

Your call....I just try to look out for everyone!

Edit.... AZ!!! Just remembered that... So I guess Friday is out unless you take off work?

You'll be fine, get a spot from lorie if you need it. Be careful as to how close your wheels are to rocks because you'll shear off a valve stem really easy. I've done calico in a bone stock 2 dr rubicon, still had 30 day tags. You'll drag the belly over a couple things and use your sliders. You'll have fun and not many if any problems.

I'll never catch my tailpipe again though. That SOB is cut off to a shorty under the Jeep now. Lol. And like I said, there's no better excuse to mod than I broke it and I need a better one.

That's what research and development is all about.....find the weak spot and make it stronger. Right?

Exactly. And how will you ever know what's weak without pushing it to, or beyond, its limits. Lol

How is a trail lead responsible for damage ?

Every time we go off road damage is a possibility !!
Utube is full of spotters causing flops with bad spots. I doubt they shelled out any $$ for repairs.

Some of my wheelin buddies from another forum have seen people file suits. Some trail leaders are showing up with paperwork for everyone running behind them to sign waivers.

I would think I don't have to go that far but I am putting it out there now. I lead so many runs!

That's why all my threads have posted requirements..... Plus.. I don't want to see anyone damage their jeep wheeling something they shouldn't yet due to lack of mods... Know what I mean? The trails aren't going anywhere!

I like the approach you have taken....

I wouldn't tell an adventurous person not to give it a go but with full disclosure that there will be obstacles that can/will cause damage.

We went on a trip with 20 jeeps from silverwood to bigbear and ended up at the bottom of dischpan. There was maybe 5-7 rigs of the 20 that should even of given it a go and only 3 of the 5 made it up the waterfall without a tug.

I flat told most of them to go home or they were going to ruin there jeeps...lol

Lorie and every else- I appreciate the concern, honesty, and encouragement! If I were a seasoned crawler I'd be a little more inclined (no pun intended) to push the limits of my rig but with my lack of experience, not a good gamble. And as fate would have it, I found out that work is keeping me in town this weekend. I hope to see some pics and make my way out there for this run down the road with some more clearance, armor, and experience. Thanks again and have a good run! Man that's depressing that people would file suit over that. Good call covering your a--.

Probably a wise choice if you're not one to be OK with a dent or two..Lift your rig, throw on at least an oil pan skid and c'mon!

Tis the season for Calico..it's just beginning. I don't do snow, so I visit Calico a lot during the winter and spring. There will be many more runs...in fact, we are planning a New Years/Home coming celebration for one of our closest friends. Dates TBD..but look for the post. It's coming

And, ya..it is pretty pathetic that there are actual wheelers out there looking to scam a buck out of someone who just wants to wheel and have fun with others. Karma's a Bitch...they'll answer for it eventually.

Hope you make it, not sure why you need a passenger though? Do you get bored driving by yourself?
