Ok, If you can find Red Rock Cyn State park, just before you get to the Red Cliffs, and just north of the Jawbone Station along Hwy 14 going North from Mojave. You will see a road going approx east named Red Rock-Randsburg Road. Bear left, and go approx 2-3 miles. I will put a sign on a stantion pointing toward the mountains. There is plenty of parking room up by the kiosk. We will air down here, and proceed into Last Chance. This first part of the Cyn is the roughest part, and does have some very large rocks, including a place up Cyn called the V-Notch. Most places should have go arounds, but some of it IS Rocks!!
We will proceed to about Cudahy Camp where we will go up a steep embankment, and over the top and back down into the cyn. From here on, most folks will only need to watch for Some deep sand. We will proceed to see the Petroglyph of the shape of a Jeep grill, then to Bonanza Gulch where some old mining cabins are still used, and at least two are habitable. Then around the corner to Bickel Camp. This is a good place to have some lunch. Then from there some folks will want to go to Burro Schmidts Mine Tunnel, ( bring a good flash light, and WATCH YOUR HEAD!!! This tunnel is in good shape, but VERY LOW OVERHEAD! from there to back track to Holly Ash Mine, and out to the 14 freeway, or to Colorado Camp, over the trail to either Mesquite Cyn, and out to Red Rock Randsburg road, or if time.....over to Holland Camp, and up to Sheep Springs, then exit either by Goler Gulch, or Iron Cyn., to the Hwy. All but the biggest rock gardens can be done by a reasonably capable 4X4 driver, and I recommend for newbies to get their teeth. There is much more like the Old Post Office, and Holly Ash Mine, as well as the escarpment over Last Chance, and Nightmare Gulch Cyns, as well as old mines and stuff. It would really take several days to see all that is here, as so much is hidden and off the main trails, but on off shoots. I think there is an app in the I-Phone store called FOB.map, and it has the entire area map for your phone. I am still old school, and use maps from paper. Maps can be bought at the Jawbone Station, and at the Texaco in Johannesburg on Hwy 395, as well as Jawbone Store on Hwy 14.
Gas is available at Johannesburg, and Mojave. So top off your tanks before you start out into the El Paso Mtns, and Red Rock Park. There is NO water, nor real facilities.
If we have a lot of vehicles, we may have to split into two groups, and one go up the 14 freeway to EP-15, and meet the others at Cudahy Camp, or at Bickel Camp for lunch, then go down Last Chance to the south entrance.
